Default 330s

My wife is looking at getting a new car soon. I used to have a subaru and we caught the bug. She wants a 4 wheel drive family performance car and we were looking at subaru wrx sti(hatch)or the 330s, Golf r32,audi's or Mitshibushi evo x. Have any of you got experience of the normal wrx sti and the 330s, and is the latter worh getting over the normal one? What do u think of other choices Greatful for any help.

All the cars mentioned are great cars they'll all have their own good and bad points

So really it will have to come down to your own personal taste.

It may also worth concidering
Ford Focus ST/RS, although not a 4x4 it does handle VERY well.
Aslo the Subaru 340R saloon is a great car but totally baised

I have a 08 STI hatch and its the best Subaru I've had, they really made a huge leap forward with the hatch, although many who I'm sure will be along shortly hate them and the styling.

What model I guess is down to personal choice and if you intend to mod, if so then a cheaper basic STI may be better although you'll be giving up the lovely Recaro's.

330s has over the STI the following:
Recaro seats
Sat nav
5 spoke lustic silver alloys
330bhp over 300bhp
Rear privacy glass
keyless entry

I think that is all.

It's a great all rounder, mine is a daily driver, school runs, tip runs, camping trips and (touch wood) has never let me down, I bought at a year old and only other choice was a FRS but 2 doors, 2wd and 28k+ put me off.

Insurance and servicing are cheap, I'm about to do an oil change and £40 covers it for oil and filter.

They do have one issue where many engines have let go, Subaru put this down to a bad factory map and issued a new one that was loaded on and the next service so there are plenty of horror stories out there, most though that went in warranty were covered. I went and had it mapped at 18 months by Duncan at Racedynamix as was not confident in the OE Subaru map and has run sweet ever since, with some handy extra power!

MPG, I get anywhere between 18 and 32, 18 on the school runs, 1 mile each way stop/start, and 32 on the M/way, around town generally sits at 23/24.

Check out the 08/09 thread in the gallery for pages and pages of info, and if you have any other questions pm me, you can always pop me a call if you want a chat about them.

I guarantee in a few moments the haters will be along slagging the hatch off so please take all into account and make up your own mind, when they start hating I'll not be replying as way to bored of them now and betther things to do, can you sense I tried to help them see the future before LOL!!!

Cheers
Arron

Driven the 330s and it was very nice indeed; rapid but refined at the same time...alot more grown up than previous incarnations

Im with Aviva and they had no trouble recognising my RB320. It was on there online drop list so i would think the 330 would be ok. I used to have trouble with a v6 mondeo i owned once. it was an Si 24 but the online form only had st24's. I insured online then phoned them and told them it was an Si. premium actually came down £20

thanks chopper!!!

I've never had any probs with any of my scoobs and the PPP - if an insurance company dont know what the PPP is they aint worth going with

you should speak to Moley at keith michaels - he'll always sort you out with a brillaint price and he knows all about any scooby

I decided against the 330S and went for the STI because for the same money I could get a lot more extras fitted for the same cost

I didnt fancy the snug recaros for everyday driving, and the remote start/stop button really annoyed me when i had the demo one for a week!!!

if these 2 things dont really bother you, trust me my car would be a much better choice with all the extras I added

I've seen a few of the first saloons now at silly money, I can only think that as they did not have the 320 upgrades they are less desirable, but if you are happy to map yourself and throw in a nav unit they are a right bargain.

we have the 330s,

this time last year looking around and ended up with the white 330s

we spent the extra ££££ over a std STi...

because.... 330s is more limited in numbers a bit more kudos about it

BUT.. the extra the 330s has over the STi, if you wanted a STi and put the extyra on.. you would spend more than the £3k extra to make it like a 330s.

another thing.. the 330s is on insurance companies data base to give insurance quotes... so its not like saying you have a modded car.

330s is virtually the MY11 spec apart from ipod dock and bluetooth link up.

We're happy with the car.. performance wise.. awesome.

we see 27mpg most ofthe time, a run from Nottm to Blackpool and back in Sport Mode gave us this...

BTW.. White is the colour to have..... a much sort after colour that will sell well in the future

I had a 59 plate WRX STi Hatch & was a good car. Sold that for supplier reasons!

I spent nearly 6 months looking for just the right 330s in white, in fact Salsa's 330s above i nearly bought but the jammy git bet me too it

You can upgrade a standard STi Hatch to nearly the same specs as a 330s but not the keyless entry, not exactly a bolt on option.
Also has push button start, to get in the car you don't even need to put your hands into your pockets.

Go the extra for the 330s as i can defo say it is worth it!
One on the bay just now too http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/09-09-SUBA...item19cac5d3eb

Or like myself you buy a std Sti and spec it the way you want it, I can live without the smart entry and privacy glass. Maybe not the bladdy recaros though lol I still need those.

everyone says they don't want keyless entry/start......

when they've not got it

I like StriKe's MY11 bumper upgrade, but like my Fog Lights and STi lip spoiler (both an extra on a 330s). I've also fitted some DRL in mine too, well pleased with the results.

And for the winter months, I've got some std Hatch STi 17's... and painted them GREEN Been on since middle of November and will be coming off end of March-ish.

You know you want a HATCH

I had mine mapped at 18 months old and forgot about the warranty as did not trust the OE Subaru map and did not want the hassle that if the engine went pop I'd be without a car for a while, still had a warranty on everything bar the engine, worked out fine for me, but admit it was a risk LOL!

Got/did have under 9 months warranty left on the engine and considering its already had a new short block, turbo etc, I'm hoping I should be ok. Shouldn't have said that

330S is recognised by the insurance companies
Figure this one out.
my old MY05 STI PPP was worth 11K when I changed to a new 330S worth 30K

The 330S was £20 less to insure than the old car
