Yo,

After you all stop pissing your selves laughing, i could do with a sensible answer to this one....

I've just put 1/2 a litre of Brake Fluid into the Auto-Transmission resevouir.

Total capacity is 7 Litres, so thats about 1/14 mix.

Has anybody any idea if the car will be ok, or do i need to drain the lot and start again ?

Thx.

No, i'm a real newbie.

A guy I know well called KingDom sent me here.

Hope i can get an answer.

I wanna drive the car later tonight, but I need to know if it will be safe of if I'll need to drain the whole lot out and put a fresh batch in.

If it was me then I would definitely replace the whole lot as transmission fluid is a damn sight cheaper than a new gearbox.

I am not sure what the brake fluid will actually do but it is pretty nasty stuff and may well have a bad effect on the oil and reduce its effectiveness.

I've just mixed a bit of the different oils together in a little container and initially the brake fliud sank to the bottom, after 5 minutes i gave it a little shake and now its mixed and stayed mixed.

Yer I think replacing the lot is the way to go.

Apparently, you need a machine to change all of the ATF in one go... maybe best to speak to a local auto trans specialist (Yellow Pages?).

Apparently "flushing" it with lots of ATF will not replace all of it.

I changed the ATF in my car for Amsoil Synthetic ATF by emptying the sump - it only took 4.5 litres which is a fair bit short of the total capacity.

You may want to post on the U.S. BBS as there are a lot more people with 4E-AT transmissions there -
