Default my98 spec?????

HI,
CAN ANYONE TELL ME WHAT SPEC IMPREZA I HAVE?

ITS R REG, JAP IMPORT, FACE LIFE FRONT, OLD STYLE CLASSIC DASH, VF22 TURBO,

IF YOU NEED ANYMORE INFO LET US KNOW WHAT YOU NEED

IVE LOOKING ON TINTERNET AND DIFFERENT SITES SAY DIFFERENT THINGS ABOUT THE CAR COZ MINE WAS REGISTERED IN JULY 98 SO IT WAS INBETWEEN CHANGE OVER SO IT HAS BITS ON OFF A MY97 AND MY98.
SOME SITES SAY ITS A WRX STI TYPE RA IS THAT RIGHT?

I MITE SOUND A LITTLE THICK BUT IVE ONLY EVER HAD MY94's SO I DONT KNOW MUCH ABOUT THIS YEAR OF IMPREZA .

ONE MORE THING CAN YOU REMAP THE ECU IN THESE OR DO YOU STILL HAVE TO CHIP OR REPLACE WITH ANOTHER ie. APEXI.

WHY ARE YOU SHOUTING!!

If its an import then its likely to be an MY98 WRX Sti. It would have signs of being an RA if it has no electric windows, alloy panels and RA badges.

It can now be remapped via ESL (£550 ish) talk to Duncan@Racedynamix on here.

On the plate in the engine bay (open the bonnet, right hand side on top of strut) will be an 8 digit code beginning GC8.....

Post the code up.

I think you mean GC8D48D as the code you posted does not exist.

If it is that code then it's a WRX.

It's a MY D series car produced between Sep 96 and Aug 97.
Will have facelift bonnet and grill with old style dash and bumper.
Same as my car except mines an STI.

If it has the code above then it was built between sep 96 and aug 97 for certain. The 98 models were MY E series cars (for instance a 98 WRX is GC8E48D).

The 98 cars also got the newer style dash but kept the old style front bumper. Maybe your car was registered late or there is a mistake somewhere.

It's a WRX though which you needed to know. Not sure on the turbo to be honest but 'think' the 22 was the original turbo used on your spec car.

I know I'm a bit slow posting but I missed this thread! A while back I wrote a web page for decoding the Applied Model Code on JDM cars and you can find it here.

I thought the VF22 was on the sti's to get it to 278bhp whereas the WRX got the td04 for 240bhp.

Actually,
The 97 model year WRX got 280PS also so couldn't of been a TD04.

Was it not a TD05 series turbo on the import WRX?

280ps is attainable on a standard TD04 (as per facelift Uk models) but a remap with decat exhaust etc. is required for the potential.

Pretty sure my old WRX import (95 car) had a TD05 as standard.

TB will confirm

Yep agree that 280PS is achievable on an 04 but would be a bloody squeeze and Subaru would not of had a turbo at its limit.

Could be an 05 model turbo as standard, I can never bloody remember. I'm sure Tony would know.

Think the MY97's were a funny bunch, the sti got the vf23 and the wrx got the vf22, pre facelift (phase 1) cars had the td05 (wrx's) and only the wagons had the td04's.
