Seriously thing about making 'the change'
Hi Ladies and Gentlemen Boys and Girls,
I'm seeking some Subaru advice so I've decided to join the sight as it seems to be the place to ask.
3 years ago I was considering buying a bugeye wrx, I never ended up biting the bullet. I bought a BMW E46 Cab (still my current car) instead. I love my car but it's getting near that time to be changed. It would be nice to be able to get off my drive when it snow's and also be a bit more accommodating for carrying people in the back. I think an Impreza should tick these boxes?
I'm now thinking about an STi, blobeye model or possibly Hawkeye. (£8-£9K)
I'd like to know of good/bad points of what to look out for. Has anybody else made a similar change? one thing that is playing on my mind is I've got used to my BMW comforts but I'm sure I could adapt.
Anybody have any idea for the difference between a standard STi and a PPP equipped one? does it also influence the insurance costs? I presume it classes it as modified?
All opinion's/advice greatly appreciated.
Steve

The PPP is a sports cat back box and a remap.
Here is the pdf for the early blob.
http://www.prodrive.com/up/03MY%20STi%20PPP.pdf
Don't get too hung up on the PPP, higher levels of power with a panel filter exhaust and custom map. You'll get alot of advice on this forum.
As for insurance it depends on your age. You need current experience of AWD at least a year be over 25 have decent NCD and live in a good postcode to be with a specialist and get a decent price.
You will probably pay more with non specialist in the first year like I had too. Once you with a specialist Ive found the the mods didn't become a problem.
I have a 04 STi with common fault being rear knocking shocks which my car has suffered from. My clutch also failed but then that can happen on any car expect £500 plus to replace.

Thanks for that. I've had insurance quote of £900 fully comp which I didn't think was too bad. That was for a STi in standard form.
Do you think its worth me hanging around for a full service history example?

Without doubt its a buyer market look in the for sale section on here . Nice cars sitting around for weeks and people offering 7k for hawkeye STI as there not shifting.
Cambelt is vital 5 years or 50,000 miles whichever comes sooner double check the dates and stamps in the books . The 50k/60k services can be £500 .
