Default Check Your Alignment!

Since buying my new STI in April, I found that the steering was almost dead centre and it didn't pull to any one side, so I didn't bother with an alignment check.

But, after fitting 4 new tyres 3,000 miles ago, I thought it now best to just get it checked. Found that the front toe and camber were both out a little. Now that its all corrected the car feels so much more planted and cornering is better. Now when I throw it into a bend, I get a lot more feedback and control.

I would definately recommend getting a proper alignment done at a Hunter equipped workshop.

I couldn't agree more. My new scoob was behaving like a dog. Wheel alignment and balance has made it a superb drive. Used a hunter equipped garage, would highly recommend.

Agree with the comments above.
A good alignment session is a must for any car never mind a performance model like a Subaru. Hunter system is spot on too, one of the best around.

This was the print out for our 2008 STi after when we picked it up brand new with only 60 or so miles on the clock!!

this vid is in 3 parts, and a bit long but you can check your wheel alignment yourself without specialist equipment.
Havent tried whats in this vid myself mind:-

Just be careful where you take it, I went to protyre and they literally made up the rear camber figures because they couldn't get it right!!!! Ended up driving it down to the next nearest garage to have it done correctly. I had a 1 degree difference in camber on the back!

As you're just down the road from me, can I ask where you had it done?

thats funny last time i took my car for an alignment at a "specialst" it came out handling like a bucket of sh*t, wouldnt corner stable, floating all over the road then to top it all of , very very luckily the steering arm sheered at 4-5mph with catstrophic loss of control - if doing 30-70mph couldve very likley been dead or worse killed some innocent bystanders.

this was a reputable garage also

go to places with real proven results.

I know of someone who went to the same Protyre and left there with a few nuts/bolt just pinched up and not tightened fully. Over the next week or so the cars handling got worse and things were clunking until the mistake was spotted.

Christchurch tyres are good. I guess that is where you went as its the next nearest place.

Give adam @ scoobyclinic a call, they are up the road from you via alfreton to matlock and do a right before the garden centre towards wingerworth if you know the road, he will give you directions they are 20 mins from you.

Can i just ask what is meant by hunter equipped?

I guess this is something better than the normal 4 wheel lazer allignment from normal tyre fitters?

Fully agree. Go see Adam and Kev. A61 to tupton. Second roundabout first exit. First left after a mile. Left at garden centre next right. Past the pond and left on a tight right. Look for scooby signs.

Hunter is a particular make of laser alignment equipment. It seems to be the popular choice in that market.

Goodwin Tyres, Green Lane, Ilford. They are very well regarded for wheel alignment.

Noticed more wear on the inside of my fronts. Think I'll be taking mine for a check very shortly.
