Default De-Cat-ed

After a bargain win on ebay i got to loose my middle cat

Suprised and chuffed that no one else bid so i ended up getting a practicaly new de cat pipe for just 12 Quid

My mate fitted it in exchange for me glazing his Office which took all of 15 minutes

Decat pipe suplied and fitted for 12 quid......Bargain and probably unstrangled a couple of horses too, not that i have noticed but i do think its oh so slightly louder

Still, its a step in the right direction

Whats the crack in lossing the other cat ?
Will i need a remap due to loss in back presure etc?

Regards
Ian

From what I have learned a full decat will not neccesary require a remap on the newage although the major gains from decating will only be seen once remaped.

not sure if an error light will show up with the full decat either again without getting reset / mapped.

so you would not say you notice much off a difference power wise with the centre decat just extra noise ??

lastly year / model is it you have ??

anyone confirm the above ??

Emmas bugeye ran LESS power with a full de-cat before mapping. Duncan estimated it was below 200bhp before the map. The EML would come on once up to temperature but the map got rid of that.

I thought the cat was on the header and there is no "centre cat". This part is just a resinator?

Well worth getting it mapped. I recently had a full decat turbo back fitted. That, along with a map has transformed the car. I really never knew how quick a car was!

Thanks to A.D.edmundson for a great service btw

No cat on the manifold, on a wrx there is a pre cat in the up pipe, main cat in the downpipe, then another cat immediately after the downpipe cat, then a middle pipe with a resonator, then backbox Think the STi's only have a cat in the DP tho.

Ok Beer all rinsed through now and slept off thank you lol

The car is an 02 Prodrive STi
Didnt expect to notice any increase in power although everyone will say it does up it by about 10bhp
Anyway, its just one of the things i wanted to do. Next will be the cam belt then start the shopping list of things for the 400
TD05 20g or Td05 18g
650 Injectors
Uprated Pump
Fitted and remapped should see 400
Already have Filter and Exhaust and curantly mapped at 330

Regards

i think you will be very lucky to see 400 even with a 20g. normally between 360 to 380 with supporting mods.

Remap is required, a free flowing exhaust quite often leads to overboosting and it's associated problems (usually not enough fuel for the boost so running lean)

Bugeye STi's don't like being de-catted but as it's only the last cat then you should be OK

Take out the downpipe cat and re-map almost guaranteed unless you are good at drilling out the restrictor pill to stop boost spikes LOL

Only if it has a PPP fitted, the Prodrive style STi came with the same exhaust as the standard bug STi.... I assumed it was a Prodrive Style and not a PPP.. Maybe the OP can confirm.

It a prodrive style but no longer has the stock Exhaust. I have the downpipe cat, then the middle pipe, then its Magnex through to the backbox
