Hi all

My MY98 turbo has repeatedly suffered from over boosting problems in 4th and 5th. Six odd times now in a year and a half of ownership. I know that the problem is with the boost solenoid and surrounding pipes as these have often been replaced when it has been into the dealers. The problem is the warranty ran out last month and this repeated problem is still happening and is seriously pi55ing me off.

My dealer says that Subaru will probably fix the problem as a goodwill gesture which is fair enough but they can't fit the car in until the 18th April!! Thats 2 weeks of driving IMHO a dangerous car (not fun when overtaking)

I have read a thread on here before suggesting using aerosol brake cleaner to flush out the pipes and boost solenoid. Is this really a good idea? Does it work or can it damage the parts, or is there a better substance for the job? Maybe I should just wait 2 weeks and let the pro's do it??

Phil,

I used aerosol carburettor cleaner on my STi3 after the garage filled the sump with too much oil. Worked fine and never been a problem since. I needed to fill the pipes and give the engine some revs asap as the first couple of times the cleaner evaporated before doing anything. Done 15k miles since no problems.

Carburettor cleaner is a bit aggressive, better to use brake cleaner available in Halfords (own brand) in aerosols which does the same job.

Thumbs up

Cheers guys I'll give that a go.

Do you spray the cleaner in all the pipes or just the one coming from the engine block?
