Default Gathering Interest on Rear Arch Panels.

Hello to all.

Im in the process of trying to get my Impreza MY99 fixed from the dreaded rust. Both my rear arches are really bad. After taking it into a body repair centre. They was told that they can't get hold of any rear arch panels anywhere. They have told me to stay away from the fibre glass repair kits to.

Now I've just had my car in for a full service and they have given me a update. The body repair bloke and a mate of his (who builds bus panels) are going to very soon start making repair panels and such. They are planning on building a few.

So basicially ive been asked to put up on here to see how many people would be interested in obtaining some.

TBH they would make a killing, as no one makes panels for them, so they would have 100% of the market.

Thing is, with an arch repair panel, its huge, needs to be cut away from above the rear door and the whole rear section removed, unless you have major major major rust its safer and easier to cut out the rust and fit in some new metal.

good luck with the group buy etc, its just it can look worse after a job like this if a crap job/panel is used etc

As predicted a year ago
The supplier that makes replacement rear arches and advertises them on the forums will make a fortune with nearly every classic in the uk rusting in the same places
Take them to the NBO 10 and they will sell 50-100 sets as long as the price point is correct

As many classics are getting broken up the classic is getting rarer and the die hard enthuasist will want theirs restored professionaally
I would have no idea of cost though ?

Hi,

we do a fibre glass repair kit.

You cut away the old rusty outer and inner wing, dress them up and weld together, seal up as required then bond/pop rivet replacement arches into place. A little cosmetic filler work is required then prep and paint, result is a perfect repair which wont ever rust.

If interested I have some shots of a set being fitted

cheers

What do you do about the differential expansion between fibreglass and steel?

Fibreglass has AT least twice the expansion rate of steel, rising to nearly FOUR times depending on the resin used

+1, i'd like to know this too. My arches are fine at the moment, but thinking for the future if and when they start to rust.

Thats because no-ones crazy enough to replace the complete Rear Arch !

The amount of work involved is ALOT (if you want a seamless finish)
