I would check your insurance quotes first on a modified JDM.

I know everyone says JDM's are the better car, stronger engine, twin scroll turbo etc, etc but I just dont think I could ever trust buying an import?

How can you know anything about its true history... servicing, written off, genuine milage etc etc

Or am I just being over-cautious and old fashioned?

Agree with the above, however some "imports" were imported from brand new, like mine, straight over with effectively no miles on it (Litchfield Imports Type 20).

Imports do come with history,if they haven't got any then it's a little odd unless it was bought over nearly new.

If you know what your looking for you can usually tell if the car has had any bad history etc.

Hi Mike74

Just like Ste_Brough, mine was also imported brand new and was first bought with only 15 miles on the clock. It is a lot of money to spend so being overly cautious is understandable.

If you are looking for a JDM with documented mileage, then mine is currently up for sale in the for sale section.

Cheers

Ta for that SP STI but I'm not really after a JDM, was just commenting on imports in general.
I'm actually after a low mile 05 sti ppp, theres been 3 quite local to me have all sold before I've even had chance to go and look at them in the last few weeks, so much for the market being dead!!

You buy an import which has the original Japanese auction sheet present, which tells you a grade (condition) of the car. Ive owned 2 jdm's, both had the auction sheet present. One of the gradings is R or 0, meaning the car has been accident repaired at some stage

Mine had a service just before it came here from japan with 972km on the clock in 2003 and was a 1 registered owner for the last 6/7 years before i bought it in June, My opinion is you cant fault an import if you know its history,

Gaz.

Mine didn't have an auction sheet must have been lost, I went by condition and all the other paperwork, most services till I had it were done by prosport a well known Subaru specialist I believe, I just viewed the car got info from receipts then phoned up to check on history, no different to buying any other car, it does have Jap history as well but I can't understand what it says but book is stamped up. I say do what I did check all paperwork and make a few phonecalls then if it checks out make an offer on it but only when you are confident it checks out
