Hey guys
Does anybody know of a company that can perform the much talked about amazing, astonishing, astounding, Bumpsteer modification in the Essex, Kent, London, Herts area as driving to Power Engineering in Cheltenham is a mighty long way.
Please, please somebody must know
Thankyou

It's "Power Station" in cheltenham that pioneered this mod for scoobs.
There MUST be somewhere else that can physically do it, but I haven't found one yet.
The gear and experience necessary are a VERY VERY unusual combination.
I'm sure there are a few that claim they could do it though!
It's worth the trip mate.
Cheers

Lazy huh
Well I've got an idea, maybe a bad one but what the hell.
Simon you seem to know about the equipment they use, right? Your saying that the skill required is only really available at Power Station, but I suspect that many decent after market wheel and tyre companies like Extreme, Elite etc have the equipment, like 4 wheel laser alignment.
Well my idea is this, could we arranged a Scooby meet at a tyre firm in the Essex, Herts area. A place with the right equipment, and ask somebody from Power Station to come down to train, assist or supervise the bumpSteer modification. This we could combine with a regional meet.
This way Power Station would get a load of dosh for doing the work/offering there expertise down this way and the tyre place will too.
I’m sure loads of people are like myself really want the mod but are unwilling to spend £60 on fuel and a whole Saturday to do it.
Everybody can win
So what do people think??

I seriously can't see Powerstation doing that. Due to the money that they'll lose!
Lets face it would you train someone up at a different co. so they could take business away from you?????

I can't really see PowerStation giving away their "secrets" although if the details of the mod are known by others then why aren't they doing it themselves?
As Powerstation is relatively nearby I've been thinking of getting this mod done; a couple of q's tho':
- does it affect warranty?
- does increase tyre wear?
- are it's effects grrrrreat/good/reasonable/un-noticeable? (for fast road use )
Ta!

If there are enough people interested, why don't we try and get a group discount from Powerstation?
I was quoted £100 + VAT, we should be able to get it lower than this.
Thanks

Good point guys about giving away secrets, but I really do not think that it is much of a secret. I’m sure any decent place with the 4wheel laser alignment equipment can do it, if they just read up on the tech.
But Powerstation wouldn’t have to give away secrets, they could do the mod themselves, but down this way.
Plus I personally think it would be beneficial for everyone, as I’m sure there are dozens of Scooby owners who would like to get this mod done, in my area, but won’t travel.
Also think of the number of people that may get it done at an organised regional meet/bumpsteer mod day, plenty, plenty
I think I’ll call Powerstation and ask them.

I'm from the Herts/Essex border and Powerstation is only 2 hours away, plus the roads are great, albeit littered with speed cameras.
I originally thought the same about going down to Cheltenham but Rich and Dirk certainly kow what they are doing. If I were them I would not go elsewhere to train other people on what they have developed, It takes time to acquire this knowledge and they have done this through years of motorsport experience.

It's not rocket science - it's just two shims under the rack plus some geometry changes. However, you are paying (not a lot IMHO) for their talent, quality workmanship, experience attention to detail and tip top 4 wheel alignment equipment!!!!!!
I wouldn't trust these changes to many others so the trip is well worth it for piece of mind if not to give some great guys your business!!! Besides, do you guys that don't want to travel really object to taking your car for a cross country blast that much?????

Well I’ve tried to contact them. And I have e-mailed them, but they have NOT even bothered to reply, to say no.!!.
I thought they would of replied, especially to the Scoobynet, afterall it owes them a lot.
I think I will learn about this mod myself and then go to Xtreme in Harlow.
There loss.

Bumbstering adjustment is done on most Rally and race cars, so a lot of people can do it. Why did I went from Paris to Powerstation, to get it done ?
Because they have the expertise on the Impreza and know what they do. Maybe a good Rally/Race engenier with a good 4x4 alligner, can do it, but you will need to do a lot of testing before you get the right result. Powerstation deliver in first shoot, and you have to pay for that.
Go there is is more than 100 worth.

MRK,
The bumpsteer mod is very straight foward and obvious once you have had it explained.
You need to find a company with a four wheel laser alignment setup and a flat and level ramp.
You can get the geometry set up however you choose, be the Pro drive, standard or a specific track setting.
Once it is correct, leave the laser alignment on the wheels and jack up the front of the car. This will give a reading at full suspension extention. Lower the car and compress the suspension to full load and take a reading.
The two figures will show the changes to geometry as the suspension moves.
Now the clever bit .... simply insert shims to lower or raise the steering rack and retest.
When you get little or no change throughout the suspension travel you have cracked it.
Talk to Elite, I would be surprised if they couldn't do it, they have prodrive settings already.
Just to back up everyone else, I went to Cheltenham ...
Nigel

Mark,
Well, I saw the reply to your email sent out from Powerstation. If you haven't received it, then let me know here and I'll ask the guys to resend it in the morning when I get down there.
Cheers
Ian

No I have not received it, don’t know why.
Would like to read it.

PS – Nigel thanks for your advice, sounds good, but I’m puzzled as to how you can fully compress the suspension.??.

You get two blokes, one on each corner to "hang" from the car - this usually has the desired effect....

MRK,
I do the IT stuff for Powerstation so I saw the email go out.
I have forwarded it to your "tubela" email address, although you might not like it I have put a receipt request on the mail. If you still don't get it, let me know and I'll post the response up here. Or you could just phone Powerstation up and ask to talk to Dirk.
Cheers

Hi
Just to say I would be interested in a "local" Essex venue to carry out this work as I too am reluctant to travel all the way to Cheltenham.
I agree, I am sure the likes of Elite could carry out this mod, and would probably discount for a large group
Just my two cents worth
