Why is that then ? Do you have proof of this ? I would like to know the answer to this question myself, I've been told on here that N/a engine blocks are exactly the same as the turbo ones it's just the pistons that are different, maybe once and for all someone can clear this up.

I thought the EJ22 from the SOHC n/a legacy was an open deck design and not designed for forced induction where as the EJ22t was a closed deck design.

This is the answer I got when I asked about the 2.0 blocks, some of the pics have gone but you can still read the replies, not sure if this applies to 2.2 https://www.scoobynet.com/general-te...ne-blocks.html

So did I

Putting large power(the sort of power 2.35`s are built for) through a ODB will cause the bores to heat up too much and warp etc..., As opposes to a CDB which is up to the job due to having more of a solid block

This refers to the 2.0l N/A and the WRX block which are both open deck and use the same block, Subaru didn`t use the 2.2 CDB in the legacy N/A, They did in some of the early 2.2l Turbo versions though,

So is a 2004 Sti block the same as a 03 N/a block or is the Sti semi closed deck and the N/a block open deck ?

I have a 2.2 CDB that I can sell you. Its got a "spun" liner in one cylinder. I say "spun" because its literally moved about 1mm if at all. Some say use as it is, others say get it relinered. Usually sell a block for £1200 but could work something out on this one if you're interested.

PM me an offer mate.

Personally I'd use as it is but worse case scenario a liner will cost around £250-£300 to get sorted.

Block is otherwise mint and totally standard.
