Winter Wheels/Tyres
Hi All,
Winter will be coming soon and I know Potenza tyres aren't going to hack it.
What does everyone else do?
This summer I swapped my Bugeye WRX for a '56 Spec D Sti, oh boy what a step up! Megga happy bunny.
What I would like to do is buy some cheap alloys and have them fitted with winter tyres. Is this a good move or should I not worry about swapping tyres on and off the factory alloys?
Swapping Tyres would obviously be the cheaper option, but you can never rely on our winter weather. We could have -10 and snow one week and +10 the next. On Off On Off, tyres or wheels.
One alloy supplier has already told me that they could have trouble supplying alloys for the car due to brake caliper clearance.
Is this tosh?
Does anyone know what details I need to supply to purchase wheels that will fit?
The basics are obvious and I think the offset is 53, which is stamped on the back of the alloys. Correct?
Any advice would be much appreciated.
Cheers

if good wheels on just now
id swap wheels and tyres, providing you can clear brakes.
thatll be my trouble, only 18s fit over them??
then just swap from nov to feb-ish.
the amount of salt dumped on the roads here last year was stupid, its still on roads just now!!

Cheers scoobydog63, I will let you know if I'm interested, gonna scutch around a bit more yet. Presume they're in reasonable nick. Are all the newage Sti wheels the same?
Jef, my thoughts exactly.
VinceW, have just looked at Litchfields but my browser shows nothing when I click on those wheels. This is the link http://www.litchfieldimports.co.uk/s...product=LII012
I'll bang an email off to them and see what they come back with.

Mike, those wheels are the spit of the factory fitted ones on the Spec D, just anthracite.
As one guy asked, I presume these would fit over Brembos?

I just picked up spare set last year only paid £80 and got some winter tyres to fit on them will just swap them in November unless snow comes early but tbh I had re070s on last year in the snow and had no trouble at all a lot is down to driving style. I never got stuck once and I live at the top of some very steep hills, just going down them is a bit awkward on the re070s which is why I bought some winter ones

No way would I start swapping just tyres for winter!!
I got a set of BBS STi wheels and Pirelli tyres off eBay for around £250 (came off an import Spec C) for winter use. The car doesnt get used a lot during the winter months and I bought them more to save damaging the standard wheels .... they came with 235/45 P-Zero Rossos, so not an ideal snow tyre, but as stated, the car doesnt see much snow. I usually put them on in November and swap them back around March!!
17's will fit over the Brembos, but only certain ones .... would stick to standard fit STi wheels to be on the safe side .... PCD 114.3 for a Spec D !!

The standard wheels dont go for a lot of money as they only fit the scooby....limited market. Standard 2008 hatch are 17 inch and clear Brembo callipers. I think 2005 onwards sti use the same wheel. 18 inch on the hatch was an option. E-bay has mint ones occassionally being sold by people who upgraded or dealers who have fitted the option wheels at customers request. Litchfield also sell on the mint delivery mileage wheels after fitting upgrades. I've got a virtually mint set of wheels I took off of my car to fit the 18's but wont let them go for silly money! Too much money to replace if I bend one of the others!!!
