My mate bought a Scooby but.......
My mate bought what he was thought was a 2006 Hawkeye sti in black from a local dealer. They are Lawrence of Kemnay in Inverurie Aberdeenshire. Now my mate doesn't know that much about the differences between a WRX and an STi so he thought that because the dealer had told them it was then it must be an STi. Anyhow, he's had the car for a wee while and he took it to another garage to get some new front brakes fitted. The garage he used told him that the car he had was not an STi but only the WRX model. He has taken said car back to the dealership and asked for a full refund but they have offered him 2 free services to make up for the difference. My mate is having none of it and has contacted trading standards and they have taken on the case for him. Surely he should be entitled to a full refund?

Not really the point I know but did he pay an sti price for it ?? could be a tricky one as unless it was actually written down on a sales receipt or whatever then surely it was only mentioned in talk that it was an sti and legally would not think there is not much come back ??
not being funny but surely your mate knew enough about subarus to know if it was an sti or wrx once he had bought it / driven it ?? was it possibly his first subaru ?? if so would have surely been a good idea to have at least had someone who knew about subarus to have a look at it for him where it would have been immediatly recognised as a wrx.
again mate possibly not relative to the situation and if I had paid sti money then yep would be kinda mad about it myself !!
keep us posted on developments.

I think we need to know:
- how long between purchase and discovery
- how much paid, year, mileage, whether prodrive PP fitted, etc
- what evidence there is that the garage advertised it as an STi - eg buyer printed off advert, receipt mentioning model type, etc.
I think if in principal a refund should be provided noting that this is a main dealer, but if we are talking 4 or 5 months down the road it'll be tricky.

It could be diffulcult to prove unless anything is in writing
Maybe just a salesman saying it is an STi then your friend has to proove it
Price
Garages can charge what they want and price a Wrx as a STi if they want to
But I think buy offering two free services is an admission of guilt so I would get then offer in writing for considersation then take them to court
Seems a strange story but strange things happen in retail

Well I would like to think I would do my homework before parting with a big chunk of money!
Lawrence of Kemnay are useless though and I have no doubt they probably sold it to him as an STI- last time I was in there speaking to the head honcho he had no idea what a 22B was.....and this from our "MAIN DEALER"
Still no excuse from your mate though, hope he gets something sorted but I think it unlikely if it has been longer than a month since the sale?
what's the latest?
