Hi, i'm looking to remap my car soon. Just wondering what was best, live remap or rolling road. Thanks.

Its all 6 and half a dozen in my opinion but you will get loads of folk bickering about it tho, I think Live is the best and I am getting Andy Forrest to do a live map on the 14th for me and he seems to think they are a good idea so thats good enough for me...

I always prefer my car to be mapped on a dyno. It's just not safe in my opinion to map on the road unless you have a private road or airstrip to use.
Many mappers will use a dyno to map then add a quick tweak out on the black stuff.

Another one for Andy F on the road. He is doing my final map on the 15th. I will get the car RR'd after aswell to confirm the figures.

Definitely both. With the dyno you can intricately setup the fueling and timing precisely on every load cell, (if using programmable management), then you can run the car on the road through it's paces and just check it over. Plus not only is it safer on the dyno but it also takes less time.

The answer is both but the bigger question should be who to do it ? The former would be answered by the latter

How close a final BHP figure can be worked out via the software away from a Rolling road ie, can you tell how much gain the remap has given ??

In either scenario there's a calculation involved just like rollers will vary in result, same too of mappers.

As an example the WHP figure x16% used to be bang on for the BHP (fly) when run at the local rolling road

But yes power runs can be done before and after exactly the same as a dyno, providing you have a nice straight flat piece of road to ensure fair claims

I use a Gtech Pro on the road, which on a straight flat road with the weights right will give a very accurate reading and is very consistent. But without all these together it is a little bit of a guestimate. I know some of the EcuTek mappers use the road dyno software provided, which is very inaccurate at best, (I've used it), I'd call it a rough guess. The open source software has something similar which is also a bit useless. Graphs on these pieces of software are very wavy, so a peak and a trough could be the difference in 30bhp. Take a look at the test mule thread below, it has some of my Gtech road graphs on there which are very good, great little thing for less that £400!

That said, if the software based dyno loggers can provide consistent results you will be able to tell what increase there has been, regardless of actual numbers.

We tried a road dyno run on a bumpy road, got some lovely peaks

I'd like to try a mapping session on a hub dyno

Both is the best IMO too. Road works great for most cars but get to higher bhp and it becomes dangerous or in a city and a long time to get to roads suitable for mapping, or weather conditions, or bad drivers (yes there are some in subarus out there) etc etc

Dyno is a great tuning tool and really speeds the process up but a combination of both is best for pub figures as well as real world performance.

Road dynos are a joke for most, having to know the exact weight of the car (and contents/drivers/passengers etc), having to have a completely flat road and wind free environment means the figures are a guess at best. Guesstimating bhp from data and experience is just as accurate in most cases.

No difference to a normal dyno - just no tyre noise lol. Hard to get your head around real flywheel figures though so end up having to take to a DD dyno or dastek to verify from my experience.
