Default Whats this hole in the rear bumper above reg plate?

Only had my MY05 WRX for a couple of weeks now and this morning I noticed something strange that I hadn’t seen before. In the rear bumper, above the number plate, there is a hole which is the width of the number plate. Is this normal? Has something fallen out?

It's normal, don't know what it's for, possibly for access to something in that area.
Gap was there in me bug & now me hawk. Nowt to worry about.

Sigh of relief! Thanks, very strange though, but i will stop worrying that part of my bumper dropped out on the way to work!

Kneel down, look up through the hole and (hopefully) there should be the two number plate lights, brackets etc...

The hole is to allow air which gets caught by the bumper to escape.
