The seller is a dealer.
He uses this site but can't remember his username.. I've had a few bits off him in the past and have no complaints.
As for the car,, sounds like a very nice motor with great spec. Shame it's not running a little more power though especially at the price he after.
If your interested in the car then give Paul a ring at Zen. He'd be more than happy to have a chat with you about it.

Thanks for the info mate, agree re. the power figs.

Do these run a VF23 as standard - there's no mention in the ad, so assume it hasnt been replaced?

That does look stunning.very tastefully done.
Mine was up for £7000 when I bought it a few months back.I managed to get it for £6200 after some haggling.
If you can get it for £7000 I'd say go for it.Dealer prices are always a bit higher but if it's as tidy as it looks I'd get it.

PS what wheels are they?I fancy some.

Danny.

Well I'm very tempted to take a look, its obviously belonged to someone that either knows his stuff or has been advised well, which makes me think they may be a member here or "known" in the scooby world.

MattyB1983: May well give Zen a call, thank you.

Its a TypeR Ltd as well, so that will be a slight premium over a TypeR. I think thats a good price for the spec and the fact that it is rarer than a normal TypeR

At least with it running that power you know it's not been anywhere near on the edge.
Does look a good one.

I viewed this car back in April when on the lookout for a new Type R, here's the thread

Overall it is clean with well done sensible mods. I had 3 issues with the car which is why we didn't quite seal the deal - crunchy 4th gear (wouldn't block change from 2nd into 4th) 'clattery' top left engine noise, this the seller explained had been there since the rebuild, he had mentioned it to Paul @ Zen and was told it's normal for forged components. And then there was the power delivery. RR dyno graphs had it at 330bhp, but it just felt well short.

I saw a receipt from Zen for quite a few grand (IIRC ~£13)

No Scooby is just as you want it when buying, but I would say for that money it's got be right. Needs a turbo upgrade for sure

Edit: btw that money is not expensive

I certainly want more clarity on the gearbox. Mine doesn't crunch.

Again my engine has just been rebuilt and it doesn't clatter, so that doesn't sound right to me. I think i would ask a few more specialists about this. And if its not pulling like stink at 330BHP then there is definately an issue somewhere. Maybe the VF28 is on its way out, but they are old cars. Maybe worth letting a specialist you trust giving it the once over.

Does look clean in the pictures though

Just found the invoice - with VAT - £12K. This includes coilovers at £1700 +VAT, and things like 4 wheel alignment (£165 +VAT )

Cheers bonesetter, v.helpful mate.

Thanks everyone else for your comments.

I'm undecided about it now, if it needs major work on the box sometime in the near future then I've got to budget for that on top of whatever price could be agreed. So would still be looking at a potential £8k. Hmmmmmmmm decisions, decisions!!!

He was asking £8K, and after the gearbox issue came to light, my offer was 7.6, this budgeting for a £900 gearbox refurb. Seller said he had he had a buyer willing to pay the 8 with the 'box as is... I saw it on eBay last month again for 7.9

The car has got some pricey kit fitted, has been undersealed and well looked after. It's a toughie

@bonesetter;

Just looking over your thread on this car, you said it was sold to a mate of the previous owner for £8k in May 11. It seems only a short time that it was owned by that mate before the dealer bought it.

As Hursts are asking £7495 for it that would imply the "mate" would have sold it just a couple of months after buying at a loss of (in my opinion) at least £1000 considering he paid £8k and the dealer would need to turn a reasonable profit.

There's a few alarm bells ringing, you saying it felt down on power and the notchy box and it being sold on so soon.

The vehicles 4th gear is notchy, Ive expalined this to 3 other guys who have called this week, 2 out of the 3 are happy with this. Honesty is the best policy and its one i have exercised from day 1. Its good to drive for a while before someone "really needs to get the work done"

Apart from this the car is stunning and does pull very strong through the gears.

Standard vf28 turbo currently on the car.

If you would have rung to enquire, i would have walked you through the entire car and explained the downsides to save you and myself time in case you wanted to view the car. It would take someone alot of time, effort and money to get their car up to this spec (especially considering standard examples are going for around 6000). You may call Paul at ZEN who put a good portion of the car together.

Also there is no middle man "private keeper". It was the owner who spent alot of time, effort and money on the car for 4 years and then myself (Hurst Cars).

A forged engine sounds a bit noisier than normal. If you ring Paul at Zen Performance he will explain this to you or anyone else interested in this car.

Opinions are always appreciated but un-informed comments are not, unless you are a specialist in this field of course. There is certainly no issues with the turbo.

Its all good and well speaking about a car you have not seen or driven. I would advise anyone interested to contact me personally and i will give you a full detailed description of the vehicle. Thanks

Hi adam405sti,

Thanks very much for clarifying.

I think I'll give it a miss as despite being a lovely car I dont want to be facing potential problems, even though the gearbox may be sound.

There is just one thing you should be aware of; you say in your ad. that the car has never been raced or on the track. Depending on you interpretation of that you may not be aware that the previous owner bought it as a track day and weekend use car and some of his posts on here indicate that it has certainly been used for track days.

I fully trust your integrity but I see no harm in doing my own homework and hope the car finds a buyer that will fully appreciate it.

Hello,

thanks for the info. This info is news to me. I think if someone is going to build a car like this to be fair i think its ready to be taken on the track. Lets face it, its made for the track. I've had various cars in the past that have been on the track.

I appreciate your investigations and hope you find what you are looking for. A standard car will probably be best to suit your needs by the sounds of it.

The car has been sold but just wanted to see where this post was going.

Thanks for your interest.
