checking jap import car identity

I am buying a 98 STI I have the chassis number is there any company that will check its not stolen in Japan with just the chassis number ?

I know you can take it to a subaru dealer but its a lot of hassle for the seller

but i dont know whether that covers if it been stolen , do hpi equifax or the like do something for jap cars?

Import dealers do some kind of Interpol check on their cars.Try giving one of them a ring to see if they can point you in the right direction.

From memory, BIMTA have just launched something similar. Try giving Park Lane in Alton, Hants a ring. They might be able to steer you in the right direction.
