No stereo, but able to use ipod etc
Evening guys
I have no idea if this is possible and may sound a bit odd but please hear me out.
I'm think of getting rid of my double din stereo (06 hawkeye) as I'm gonna need the space for switches and dials. Is it possible to have an audio / usb jack on the panel.
Could you some how re-wire the speakers into a single jack or even get a connector that converts into usb/audio. In theory it should be possible as I have home speakers in my office that just have a single audio wire to my iphone.
Anyone do anything like this or got any ideas?
Cheers

That would need an amp of some description with a direct feed for USB. There's nothing I've seen that can do that. You'd have no control over EQ, balance, etc. The iPod trying to power the speakers would sound total crap if it was even possible.
You could stick a single din unit in the slot and use a blanking plate for the switches then stick the dials where the clock is.
Alternatively could a single din stereo fit in the armrest storage area between the seats with a bit of an extension to the wiring!

Cheers guys
Would it sound total crap, understand you'd have no control over balance as they'd probably be wired all in together but you'd use the EQ on the iphone surely its the same principle as headphone
I can't use single din, need all the space but I do like the idea of using the glovebox. I like the idea of having it all hidden and then just having a simple connection on the dash. Only problem with that is, venting the amp, think it might get a little toasty in there.

You'd want an AMP with Speaker-level inputs built in, then use a earphone to rca lead from your music player.
Personally, Id say go single din, and use other wasted space for switches, like the ash tray area, the other din you'd be freeing up, the A-pillar, or even the ceiling (Knight rider cockpit style)

I know its a nasty bit of kit, but something like this should do:
http://amplifiersnow.co.uk/24-69-hif...amp-usb-sdmmc/
It's not for me, its only for the few times my daughter comes in the car and I can play her kidy songs etc

I know its one dodgy bit of gear, proper chinese crap. No idea about that battery connection.
At least there is a bit of kit out there that will do the job and is really small
