Default Blobeye- is an sti worth the premium??

hi,
as the title really, i am looking to get a blobeye once my m3 sells and looking at sti's, they are about £7k for ones im looking at.
Looking at same age/mileage etc wrx's that can be had for around £3k less than the sti's.

So are they worth the extra premium? i wouldnt be able to have a standard wrx as they are very slow, would i be able to mod them to 300bhp easily or am i best of just getting the sti to start with?

i know this has probably been done to death but i cant seem to find a definitive answer.

thanks

STi, no question. Well worth the extra, just add up gearbox and brembos alone and your almost to £3k in second hand bits.

I'm biased and haven't driven at WRX but you could defiantly gain the performance for £3k without a doubt. The STi is pretty decent though, Brembos, 6 speed and interior wise and exterior looks defo thumbs up from me.

Ideally you want to buy a sti to start with, Stronger engine, gearbox etc etc, i have a blobeye wrx running 334bhp but it did cost a bit to get it here :-)

Sti mate, 300 in a sti is just an exhaust, panel filter and remap. In a wrx its a remap, exhuast, panel filter, up pipe change, turbo change and possibly intercooler change and maybe even injectors. and then you need brembos to stop you which the sti already has.

I have a WRX I am now running close to 500bhp, When I got it to 300bhp I had changed most of the parts on the car to get it to go well, A good few of the parts Are STi, gearbox rear diff, drive shafts, prop shafts. you will get 300 out of a wrx but you will start to break things. if you go for an sti, things will break, but it will take a lot longer.
If you can afford Go for an sti, JDM
If I had my time over again I would of got a 2 door Type r,
Bez

I started off with my foray into Impreza ownership in 2002, with a MY01 WRX Bugeye.
Have to say it was an awesome motor!
However, it did lack a bit below 3500 rpm. Really didn't like any incline at 30mph!
It was standard, but never missed a beat in the almost 4 years I had it!

I then moved to a MY05 STi Type UK and wow, a world a difference from the MY01 WRX!
All the low down lag was gone and I was really surprised how much more responsive and go it had, for an extra 40bhp.

The RB320 is a league ahead again!

for £7k I would hang on, take your time and be prepared to travel. Took me ages to find mine and was so tempted by a few in the mean time.

shane that is beautiful mate.

to the op, insurance will be slightly dearer on the sti to the wrx,
in the current market ure prob better picking up an sti as it will work out cheaper in the long run,
i have a hawkeye wrx sl and running 355bhp, u cant get my model in an sti and i like to be different.

if u go for a wrx and then go for 300bhp u will need
panel filter, £40
sti pinks £120-150
turbo vf30.35 £300
brembo calipers £350
remap £250-350 depending on who does it
exhaust £200-300 for full set up
posibly need an sti tmic £130-180

these are rough prices from forums and ebay.

u could fit uprated discs and pads, braided hoses 5.1 fluid and have a really gd brake set up for your power but u will want more power trust me on that so brembos are a better choice,

really depends, how crazy you want to go,

i didnt have sti money so have gone for a wrx(bug) mine came with some mods done:

panelfilter
prodrive exhaust
centre cat gone

so i have bought :

sti up pipe
prodrive downpipe
walbro fuel pump

cost so far £180 then a map £270 should see me 260/270 for me the saving was justified, esp as i dont need 300bhp to take me over 100mph,

dont forget now, there aint too many un modified cars about, and mods dont make money when selling,

If you bought a Blob STi only running 300, then yeah you'll notice a lack of acceleration compared to a 330bhp classic.

330bhp pulling 1270kg (heaviest M99/00 Classic) = 264bhp/tonne.

300bhp pulling 1470kg Blob STi = only 207bhp/tonne!

And those calcs are sans driver too.

haha Joz, it took a good 30 secs before I even read your post! Great animation you got there!

The Blob will have great handling and they aren't to bad on fuel if you go long distances, I was surprised how well it can do on petrol especially when running Momentum

Cossy filter, 255 fuel pump, remap

I have the PPP, but not interested in changing turbo or anything like that as i'd like to make the most out of what its already running. Been recommended the above by a mapper plus the map to bring me up to 350 (ish)
