hi all i went to view a 98 type r earlier today, car was in good condition and the only fault i could find was the airbag light was on. the seller told me that it did come with a passenger airbag but was removed and replaced with the glovebox hence why the airbag light is on?

is this true? sounds a bit odd to me?

I think the type r only came with drivers airbag, if you take out the lower glove box and stick your head under the dash you should be able to see if there is an airbag present its bolted to the tubular dash suport bar, it will have yellow covering (tape) on all the air bag wiring the control unit is under the centre console all the cables from this unit will be yellow.

I've got passenger airbag on my 98r think later ones may have come with airbag could be wrong to op has the steering wheel got a momo on? Sa they may have tried to fit it but could wire airbag up properly?

MY 99 TypeR Ltd's come with the glovebox only, not sure about standard TypeR's though

Yes momo steering wheel, im curious as to why the airbag light is on?

that is because whoever fitted the momo didnt know how to wire up airbag hence light on dash telling you airbag is not working or malfunctioned

on the early MY98 V4(R reg) only comes with drives airbag it could well be that its not connected properly ( i dont know how its just plugs).

i think airbag on type r was from V5 onwards.( passenger side)

Apart from V5 Ltd, no passenger air bag, just the drivers side

think they only come with momo from v5 onwards it should have a nardi wheel on the v4 unless late v4s did have momos but im unsure my v4 has a momo on with working airbag also i have passengers one aswell

My old version 5 type r had a passenger airbag, where my current One does not, I think it must be an option when ordering the car from new.

The light will be caused by a faulty air bag, it happened on my V4 Type R, randomly one day it just came on. I have an aftermarket omp steering wheel now, with the resistor supplied with the boss, no more air bag light.
