Thinking of offering a cheeky 7k, is it worth it...?

Its got some nice bits on it but to be honest in my opinion he/she is being a little optimistic with there pricing, Its limited by its 5 speed box and standard WRX engine which could be living on borrowed time with that power but you wont know till it too late, Not knocking the car i`m just pointing out the weak points IMO,

For 7K you could do a lot better, As my advice and many others would be an STI for that money, Been there and done it with a wrx, If you have the funds do it right the first time, Good luck but for 500 quid more you could get this,

I understand what your saying but the level of modification is very impressive. The link you have posted are for standard cars. Don't really want the hassle of moding myself. Do you think even 7k is to much?

This lads car is truly amazing.

He is one of the Mods on North East Subaru Forum so really knows his cars.

All the work has been done to a very, very high standard by specialists.

You would not find a better WRX for that kind of money. If I had the money and my wife could drive a manual I would already have it.

If you PM Duncan at Race Dynamix I am sure he will tell you about this - couldn't get a better recommendation than that.

If your after a modified WRX SL

http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/3096600.htm

Would just leave the styling to put your own touch on with whatever wheels etc you wanted.

There is a 2005 sti for sale on here at 7.7k, there is no way I would spend 7k on a wrx the sti is worth the extra pennies all day long.

Indeed i am mate, simtek looks after it all nicely

and love it mate, spool is simply epic. Car just takes off with it.
the 46 on a twin scroll should be even better!

It's 350hp with some great mods vs a standard STi ... not that simple a choice imho!

Was thinkin about the twinscroll SC42 billet As this would spool even quicker and i think 420bhp would be enough for now without having to go frontmount which is a last resort as i want to keep the orig look, sleeper style with small spoiler if thats poss in a spec c.

difference will only be 200-300 rpm though and the 46 gives room for more power from a front mount later. On my setup front mount and a 20% meth mix should be getting on towards 500

Engine and box should be OK at that level if you treat the driveline with some sympathy.

Having said that, I wouldn't pay near that price for it, but if you like it then go for it - at 7k it might just make sense for you, particularly if you want the leather interior which AFAIK isn't available in other models (is it available with the STI spec D?)

Borrowed time on the box i'd think, mine stripped 2nd clean off @320 coming off an island at 20 and not even bossting. No pre warn or hints of it going before.

its priced gd with the mods it has been done on it,

just check the heated seats work at both settings and sunroof works as well,

the seats are ultra comfy and superb in the winter as it takes around 1 min to heat them up,

So a car with better brakes, stronger engine that some run in the mid fours if not more, rock solid 6 speed gear box, better interior, the list goes on, and when the op gets bored and wants more power then realises he can't as the block and box is at its limits and wishes he bought an sti for the same money and spent a little making a good base car great.......I think imho a standard sti over a modded wrx would win everyday of the week

Always amazes me how rank looking the newer dashboards and steering wheels are. The centre dash and wheel on my bugeye look so much nicer than that hawkeye in the link. The grey steering wheel looks like something off a late 70's/early 80's nissan.

Oh and to the OP, get an STI if you've got that to spend. The difference between an sti and wrx on the newage is huge, even more so if you go for a JDM model.

The WRX in the add is 85hp better off isn't it ... 350hp vs standard 265hp on the STi. My guess is that it will be somewhat faster Steve It's also got brembos (you can see that in the pics). Probably better suspension (Eibach / Whiteline) than the STi too. Take off your rose tinted specs fella

and the brembo's on that car are probably a lot better than the STI ones..

I think it looks like a pretty sorted car - how many STI's honestly run more power than that WRX? The engine will be fine at that level, and I haven't had any issues with my own box so far (24k miles including 3 track days on sticky tyres) running everything from 350 to 390 bhp

It is a stunning car which has been modified tastfully and successfully to make a great car for road use.

Very well looked after IMO.

I'd say the STI would be the better option.
STI with an exhaust and remap - 350 is easily achievable.

That's +£1500 though & would that really give you another 85hp on the STi

I had to spend about £2.5k to get my Spec C up to 375hp a few years ago.

To be fair ... how many STIs actually hit 350bhp with those mods ?

Honestly don't know, but I do know that my old MY05 did
I know another guy locally with "almost" 350 - same MY, same exhaust/filter

I wouldn't buy another 2001-2005 WRX, I would buy a Hawk WRX though

Personally I'd rather a tidy Bug Prodrive style STi and have some money to play with

End of the day it's a lovely car just a shame the market is toast atm
