Question Is it just me or...................

Does it seem that if you dont spend thousands on your Scoob people look down to you on here these days? Just a feeling ive got from the last couple of months.

Anyone else noticed it?

I can't say I've noticed that, but people will always hold different views on modifying cars, I'm a bit picky with mine, whatever I buy, I try and keep it JDM!

I've got loads of good secondhand bargain lately. Mostly OE reconditioned but some after market stuff too.

There is some really rough cheap stuff about that can be a bit naff though.

in my opinion, the more d.i.y you do to your car to save money the better doing the work yourself is what its all about for me

I have a high percentage of 2nd hand parts on my car, and I'm as happy talking someone with a std. WRX as I am a big money project car.

But I know little about classics, as I left my "cat" standard, so don't tend to comment on them.

I know exactly what you mean. I popped along to a meet a few weeks ago (Not a SWS meet, a local one close to where Im based) and I was the only one there with a classic.

I was chatting away to some chap about my plans and I overheard two guys behind me say "I wouldn't bother, Its only a Classic Sport Special"

So...yep I agree with you.

Iv got a classic because I personally think its the nicest shape. I could easily afford a newer model but acually enjoy the car Iv got. No silly MGP as its a non turbo, easier to service and ALOT cheaper to insure.

Each to their own mate. Happy to say that Iv never had that experience with the Wales Section :-)

Yes and no, there's a difference between being frugal for bargains and buying cheap ****

The cheap **** brigade deserve to be ridiculed

There are those people that spend thousands on a car that's already been tuned and think they have the best car in the world lol, and will unfortunately be snooty about your 16 year old WRX

It's usually ignorance IMHO

I must say i've had that similar feeling recently.
I've met a few guys recently who own newage cars, they all seem to look down on the old classics, as if they are inferior to there big and bulky newer models. When in reality (spec wise) my old girl is leaps and bounds above their cars. Its almost as if they think i couldn't afford a newer model when actually they couldn't be further from the truth. Not blowing my own trumpet but i've probably got more cash in my account than they all earn in two years.
I wonder if they would feel the same if i had bought a 22B like i was planning on.

I rarely buy new parts unless i really have to, good second hand bits are deffo the best way to go.

I've allways wanted/ still want a classic, love the nice clean tastefully modified classics on here, the only problem is most of the examples i have seen on the road aren't in too good a shape and usually have some IMO tacky mods like lexus rear lights, chrome wheels etc... but each to their own.

OP aslong as your happy with your car that's all that matters we all get the odd negative comment/ snide jibe now and again, just ignore them and enjoy your pride and joy!

It's the same with everything in life, it's just peoples own opinion. if you have a wrx you'll be told to buy an sti, if you have a ps3 you'll be told to buy an xbox...
You've got the car you wanted and if you want to change it to your tastes then go for it.
I had the same from parents and friends when i sunk £14k into a ford escort on an SPL system, i enjoyed making the car loud but that was my passion and not theres so they didnt understand.

At the end of the day if you want to spend ££££££££'s modding your car then fair play. Im in the middle of turning my WRX in to a track/weekend toy and so far it's cost me around £500. On telling this to another member on here i was looked as like i was a piece of poo he found on his tyre. Im sorry but if this is how Subaru ownership is going id rather not have one.

On circumstance in particular was at last years Rallyday,i was talking to a guy who had spent thousands on his car and we were chatting fine,as soon as i showed him which car was mine he hardly acknowledged me all day.

Its not the friendly scene i joined a few years ago where everyone was happy to help everyone else.

I guess the saying is right,Money talks

Being a classic owner I have to agree.

Theres too much negativity on here and it puts me off. Mention modifying your car cheaply or with 2nd hand parts and thats usually greeted with "expect it to blow up anytime soon then". Ask for advice on something budget related and you get looked down on too, like you're wasting peoples time.

Everyone has to start somewhere and we all dont have disposable incomes. There seems to be this assumption that owning an impreza HAS to be expensive, like its the law and those who break it should sit on the naughty step.

Same everywhere.

My last club with Vectra`s, was bad unless EVERYTHING was GSI (top spec), and Irmscher then no one wanted to know you.
And your talking a rep mobile lol.

Tbh **** people like that, they are snobs. They ***** wave and are pathetic.
Not everyone is in the same financial position, and the reason we are on the site is for a love of the cars, Classic/newage/hatch etc, NOT how much money you can throw at a car.

Think people can get carried away, and also some can take things the wrong way too, seeing things as an attack or putting down when its not.

Personally just think that encouragement is the way forward, no matter what has been done to the car. As for some fitting a set of Lexus lights is just as important as the Fully Forged Closed Deck 2.2 Stroker that someone else has.
Its people who make the club NOT the cars, the car is the reason whey we oined, and perhaps a refocus to remind that.

But everyone needs to realise "Opinions are like ********. Everybody's got one and everyone thinks everyone else's stinks."

I've gone from a Newage to a Classic, I'm gonna be refreshing all the underneath for as cheaply as possible myself! I couldn't give a rats **** if anyone looks down and asks why spend all that on a classic etc! The engine will be the expensive bit that I won't be doing myself

Those that look down have a problem within themselves. Feeling like they are is some way better because the car they own is more expensive is really sad. One should not value themselves as a person based on the things they own. Everyone is in a different position. What I can't stand is when I flash and give a wave to classic drivers from my blob and get blanked, what's that all about

I think it's a bit daft as in all fairness we all drive the same car, be it a WRX, STI, P1, hatch new saloon or whatever other variant we own they all have the same badge on in one way or another and they are all called an impreza (excluding the new saloon before any smart ****'s turn up) and surely these people who plummet thousands into their cars would call you an idiot if you were to do the same and not pay your bills just so that you can "keep up with the jones's" sort of thing
