Default next step for bug wrx

Hi guys, I am just wanting some pointers on which mods would be the best next step for my bugeye wrx?

It came from the factory with the ppp and I made the huge mistake of buying a k&n induction kit and Bailey dump valve. Well, after about 2000 miles of it running like a bag of spanners I saw the light and removed them both immediately lol.

The other day I fitted a green panel filter and an afterburner decat centre section and back box :-)

I'm now getting some 18" rims and maybe some eibach springs. The thing is I'm after a bit more power and am not sure what to upgrade. I was told by my mechanic that my up pipe was blowing and I should get a decat up and down pipe, so I think this will be next. Should I get a remap after this? Would I see much in the way of power gains with these mods and a remap?

Would a better turbo and injecters be the next Step or is there something else I should do first?

I'm not after mega power, just a fast road car with maybe around 350bhp+

Any advice welcome, cheers!

Hi there

personally i would wait on remap until you gather all parts, which you want for 350bhp,which are:

VF30,VF34 or VF35 turbo,these turbos will do around 330-350bhp
Decatted up pipe(Harvey sell them for great price and have great results in spool)
Decatted downpipe with straight through center pipe(can be Resonated Center pipe)
3-port boost solenoid
STi TMIC or FMIC(this will be on longer run cheaper option)
Walbro 255lph fuel pump
550cc STi pink injectors

And after this you should have nice 330-350bhp

Hi M8, if you are interested i have just put a td-05-20g and decat exhaust on my 2002 bug sti, as a result i have a VF35 turbo and Miltek fast flow exhaust system for sale, These would be a great upgrade for your car, was what my 2001 bug wrx was running before i sold it, and went like the clappers
if you are interested i have put a lnk for both on here, complete exhaust system is up for £220 and turbo is up for £270, (have a look there is a similar exhaust on here for £100 MORE than mine!!!) all you would need then is some pink injectors (sold mine) and a remap Happy days

That's pretty much what I have on my bugeye and am making 340bhp. More than 350 and the wrx gearbox will commit suicide anyway.

Hi,my bug wagon has STI topmount intercooler,STI pink injectors,Harveys ported and wrapped headers and up-pipe,full de-cat exhaust and was mapped by Pat Herbourn it makes 313/300 which is a conservative map,but the car will last at this level. It as also got a ksport big brake coversion on the front and eibach springs, plus an uprated clutch. All of which you need to think about seriously at over 300 bhp,the brakes I couldn't do without.

Ah thanks for the replies.

So shopping list should look something like this -

Turbo (vf34/35 or 18g

Sti pink injecters

Sti top mount

Decat up/down pipes

Re-map

Front brake upgrade

Eibach springs

Ah jeez I knew I should have started with an Sti lol

And thanks madmerlin I shall think about your turbo and intercooler.

What power should my car be pushing now? I think the ppp was 265 as standard so with a d3cat afterburner centre section and b box and a panel filter will it be about 270? Cheers

I would stick with the vf34/35
An 18g may be putting a little to much through the 5 speed box of the wrx.

Some get away with it some dont.
I guess you need to way up whether you want to risk needing a replacement gearbox

No problem m8, if you are interested i will do the complete Miltek exhaust and the VF35 for £450, have just listed them on ebay, as need a quick sale to pay for my simtek

My wrx with the std td04 panel filter and decat hit about 275, so yes your spot on m8..

Get it on a rolling road and find out - you need to know what you're starting with before you start changing bits

If your car is just a bugeye wrx ppp with a panel filter, it'll be about 250 now. They never made the 265 that Prodrive stated. Madmerlins post about 275bhp was all down to the decat i think

Would this intercooler from scoobyworld be a good alternative to a used sti job? Would it be as efficient and get the same performance?

http://www.scoobyworld.co.uk/catalog...oducts_id=1752

I was also wondering what turbo mine has as standard? Is it a td04 or something?

Sorry for all the questions lol

Wont be for a couple of weeks till i've weighed it all up and worked out exactly what I want. But i'm definately wanting either an sti top mount or maybe the one I posted a link to.

I know you say "cheap" but how cheap exactly? lol

Good price

I'd personally go for STI top mount over that one on scoobyworld, looks better with the lettering too. Just remember that on a bug, you'll need the undertray and larger scoop to benefit too
