Who has a rollcage, what's it like and how much?
Me and a friend are trying to decide which car to buy to track prepare, I'm kind of close on convincing him an Impreza is the way, maybe a STI RA.
We are going to need a full roll cage in whatever car we get, so I was wondering who has one in theirs. If you could let me know if it's welded or bolted, how much it cost and where the place is that fitted that would be great.
Do the bolt in ones need to be welded at all, or can they be DIY'd?
Pictures would be nice to.
Thanks

I have a cage in my 97 STI V3. It's a bolt in Cusco dash dodger. No welding needed what so ever and was pretty easy to fit. Just removed all seats, made the cage up in the car and drilled it in. A few nuts, bolts and underseal and job done.
Paid £300 for it off a member on here plus £20 worth of paint.
There was a similar cage for sale on here a couple of weeks ago. Don't think it sold, that was about £300 I think.

Mine's a new age, but here are some pics:
6 point cage with lots of extra bracing.
Very well fitted by Nickson Motorsport (http://www.nicksonmotorsport.co.uk) in Surrey.
Car feels noticeably stiffer.
A weld in one is very time consuming to fit, but if you make it so that it picks up in as many places as possible, then it will make the chassies very, very stiff.
I paid 1750 for mine, including dash modification.
Most bolt in ones still need some welding too, AFAIK. I.e. you end up welding plates for the feet to attach, although MattyB's cage above doesn't look like it needs any.

I decided back in january to build a track car and opted to fit a weld in cage, this was done by custom cages at a price but well happy with the results they have been established many years in motorsport a few pics from start to finish
then came the primer
They charged me all in with pick up and delivery £2.5k great job and service if a bit vague on some occasions as when it was going to be ready but took a month from picking it up to getting it back.

If you're only going to track day it then a 'dash dodger' cage with the double bend is ok but if you have any plans to compete in it then you need a cage without the double bend at the front.
K 1.3.1
"The
front leg of a front rollbar or a lateral rollbar must be
straight, or if it is not possible, must follow the
windscreen pillars and have only one bend with its
lower vertical part."
Nice cage Leecalcars.

Cheers guys I saw a few good and bad cages today at cadwell for the stages of time attack, infact a few never had them !
You won't go wrong with CC they've been in the buisiness years and do cages for all the top motorsport companys this will come at a price but there are some jobs that need to be done by the experts.
Good luck in your descision but make sure you get one fit for purpose I don't compromise on safety .

I used a BMS weld in cage for my project pug, they do some BTCC cages, the fit was pretty good.
They do Impreza cages too.
