3 port is better at holding the boost profile that the ECU thinks it needs for best Performance.
When I had my car mapped by Bob Rawle the first time back in the time dinosaurs roamed the world........around 10 years ago (he fitted it just before mapping) I think I just about understood the technicalities as he described it to me ......TBH I have just given in and accepted that if Bob Rawle thinks it holds boost better then that's good enough for me
Yep.......usually the mapper fits the 3 Port as you sit in the car as the Wideband, detcans, etc gets strapped to the car ..... The ECU sits in the passenger footwell oiblivious to the general running around as everything gets sorted and the bank balance takes the usual scooby tuning hit
I am not 100% certain but think the standard 2 port set up leaves the actuator connected to boost pressure from the manifold and just bleeds air out of the system to allow the actuator to not see full boost pressure and hence delay the opening but the 3 port doesn't allow the actuator to see any pressure until the ecu let's it so can aid spoiling and give far greater fine control of the boost. That's how I think it was explained to me. My prodrive ones a noisy bugger though
A no frills 3 port is the GM Cyclone model.
Ship half a dozen of them back here at about $30 each from the States and flog the rest to make it worthwhile.
Just a tad off topic, sorry Grant, but can the pipes for a 3 port solenoid be longer than standard? I've got the Perrin 3 port to fit, but was maybe going to reposition it.
Same here, I had mine fitted at Harvey's before Bob Rawle worked his magic the second time on my car. As above, it goes over my head but when you trust the folks with your car I listen to their advice. lol.
