what 3 port
as above what would be the best 3 port boost solonoid?
what would be an ok one? and what would just do the job no frills? was looking at the perrin one seems a decent one:D for v7 sti Grant |
OEM jobby as good as any.........Harvey usually has a couple tucked away :D
Shaun |
thanks shaun will pm him any idea of ££ s?
Grant |
i bought one off harvey got him to through in some vac hose aswell as halfords didnt have any think i paid £69
|
Prodrive one is also good as plug and play on newage but earlier oem one is good just needs a change in wiring
|
Harvey sells MAC 3 ports. One in my car ;)
TX. |
prodrive plug and play sounds good though lol
|
you mean the classic 3 ports? whats the wiring diffrence?
|
I have used the MAC 3 port, perrin and Apexi. All very good and reliable :)
|
grant try rich f.b tuning ,
i got my prodrive 3 port from him,he might have a few kicking around |
what is the advantages of a 3 port sorry to sound thick :s
|
3 port is better at holding the boost profile that the ECU thinks it needs for best Performance.
When I had my car mapped by Bob Rawle the first time back in the time dinosaurs roamed the world........around 10 years ago (he fitted it just before mapping) I think I just about understood the technicalities as he described it to me ......TBH I have just given in and accepted that if Bob Rawle thinks it holds boost better then that's good enough for me :D Shaun |

Prodrive is straight fit or Apexi Avc-r boost solenoid working well. Jura |
The way it works, means boost is more finely controlled than a 2-port. Not essential, but nice to have - car's nicer to drive.
|
lol, I got response in 2 posts too late! :D
But if going from a 2 to a 3, or vice versa, then remap required, as Jura says. |
Yep.......usually the mapper fits the 3 Port as you sit in the car as the Wideband, detcans, etc gets strapped to the car ..... The ECU sits in the passenger footwell oiblivious to the general running around as everything gets sorted and the bank balance takes the usual scooby tuning hit :D
Shaun |
lol
But too true about the "Scooby account" :( :D |
I am not 100% certain but think the standard 2 port set up leaves the actuator connected to boost pressure from the manifold and just bleeds air out of the system to allow the actuator to not see full boost pressure and hence delay the opening but the 3 port doesn't allow the actuator to see any pressure until the ecu let's it so can aid spoiling and give far greater fine control of the boost. That's how I think it was explained to me. My prodrive ones a noisy bugger though
|
A no frills 3 port is the GM Cyclone model.
Ship half a dozen of them back here at about $30 each from the States and flog the rest to make it worthwhile. |
Just a tad off topic, sorry Grant, but can the pipes for a 3 port solenoid be longer than standard? I've got the Perrin 3 port to fit, but was maybe going to reposition it.
Ricey |
They can be longer but you do want to keep them as short as possible for better control :)
|
I was told by a respected mapper to get an early 3 port boost solenoid, some of the other brands are "floaty" on high boost

subaru 3 port boost |
Do any model imprezas come with a 3 port as standard? Or more importantly before I get a remap what has my 2003 STI have (European model)
Cheers. |
MY93-96 'phase 1' Classics did.
Then, AFAIK, MY97 through to present had 2-ports. |
got several early classic 3 ports, at good price if any one want one
|
Same here, I had mine fitted at Harvey's before Bob Rawle worked his magic the second time on my car. As above, it goes over my head but when you trust the folks with your car I listen to their advice. lol.
