Starter motor snapped off block!!!
Evening folks,
Just been out for a very casual drive in my car and it suddently cut out... completely died! Wouldn't restart - relays click on ignition but it didn't turn over at all.
On inspection it seems like my starter motor has snapped part of the casing and is hanging by the cables (presumably pulled on some of the electrics when it came loose - hence no turnover?) with part of the casing still bolted to the block. I'm guessing the top bolt worked loose and then the alloy just wasn't strong enough to have the whole motor hanging on the bottom bolt.
Can anyone recommend me somewhere to get hold of a replacement starter asap please? The car is a my93 wrx.
Is there anything else i should be checking that might have got damaged when this happened, or alternatively contributed to the failure?

and another question.... sorry folks..
having now got the old unit off (what's left of it!) it appears there should be a stud in the top hole in the block but the hole is empty, anyoen knwo if i can just use a suitable size bolt for this? If not, where can i get a stud that would fit?

Yes the fact that the stud has been pulled out normally suggests that the threads have gone. Without actually looking it seems the likeliest cause

i think my mate (who, coincidentally i bought the car off!) has one so will try him first as he's just down the road.

Thanks for that.. that explains a lot!
i've been told by the guy i got the car from that it's a bolt at the top, and stud on the bottom.. he reckons abotu 150mm long metric thread... plus that would explain the sudden death if there's no engine earth any more!

there appears to be another earth - a big yellow and green cable nolted to the top of the block under the inlet. not sure where the other end of that goes off to yet...
