Hi guys new here.

Basically looking to see what the 2.5 WRX STi UK PPP is like on a day to day basis. Its the 325bhp model. So looking for info on the Tax, Servicing and estimated MPG.

Currently driving a Focus ST kicking out 280bhp and averaging around 26mpg.

Would you recommend the swap (not being bias lol)

Not sure it helps and im sure its not the most appropriate answer on a subaru site but wouldnt you rather move from an st to an rs focus seems logic to me or are you wanting out of the ford scene all together.

Had 5 fords in my time. And to be honest the RS does nothing for me, its just an ST with more power and a tricker front suspension

325 bhp model, do you have a link? The PPP model is marketed as having 305 bhp. The newer models are available at 320 and 330 bhp but are the newer hatch models and new saloon.

Good fun, in answer to your question!. I have had mine from new, so nearly 5 years now. It hasnt missed a beat and still feels like getting into a new car every day. The only thing I will say is you wont get 26 MPG out of it, at least not around town. I fill mine (£70) and it does around 230 miles on it, although that is town driving. It will be a fair bit harsher and noisier than your ST, but well worth it!

Nice looking car, Hawkeyes are lovely. It has been modified, having the exhaust and EcuTek map which would suggest a reputable tuner has done the work. That is worth checking though, as is the history.

The 2.5 Engines do have their weaknesses so it's worth investigating and deciding if you are happy to live with the possibilities before you commit.

Scoobies sometimes do have bottom end failure, but that shouldn't really put you off. The head gaskets and pistons on the 2.5 however seem to be the weaknesses. If you do a search you'll throw up some threads.

Don't be too hasty in discounting it though as there are loads of owners who have had no problems. This car appears at first look to have been cared for with the map and mods, as people who do this sort of work tend to be decent owners. An Ecutek map is £500 + so not a cheap mod.

Plus 1 although i will say that if you drive the car until the fuel light comes on (dare i say it) and resist the urge to kane it lol. you might get 240 / 250 miles out of her. the suspension is a bit bouncy but the shocks will fail at some point, giving you a perfect excuse to get some BC coilovers (mines going in next week).

Well worth it in my opinion. The PPP standard comes with 316 bhp and is very quick. I did find the standard Prodrive map to be very lumpy in low revs to the point it was almost impossible to drive in first and 2nd. I have a custom remap which significantly smoothed things out and with simple subtle modifications (exhaust, panel filter and remap) it's kicking out 356bhp and 375lbs.ft. Its smooth but just so quick. From 2500-2700rpm its an animal but still very controllable. When does your ST turbo kick in? The interior is nicely done too, and better quality than my old Nissan 350z. Fuel consumption will be on a par with an ST. Service interval is every 10k miles and parts are relatively cheap, possibly slightly more than ST parts but no where near as parts for a bog standard BMW! And servicing is cheap at a specialist. Cambelt needs doing every 5years or 48-50k miles if I remember right. The only weaknesses referred to are head gasket and ringlands but please note these issues are rare. It's a good solid car. Try a few before you buy and if possible find out which garage it has been regularly serviced at and give them a call to find out what in their opinion the condition is like and what hidden things may need doing. So the big question. Would you guys chop the ST for the older scooby.

My commute to work is 22 miles all motorway and 22 miles back so almost 50 miles round trip per day. (and no a dont want a diesel lol).

Is the car a capable motorway cruiser and is it friendly at 60mph on the juice.

Thanks Simon yes goes very well It was 375 lbs.ft on the graph but it was a hot 28deg that day if I remember so who knows what it runs in cool weather Thank you again.

Sean, yes it cruises very well. I do 50 miles a day, mostly dual carriageway and town. The town is the killer as it's stop start. I share mine with my wife (I trust her driving ) but generally we do a tank a week, maybe more. It's around 250 miles to the tank. Although if you cruise at 65 it may increase the mpg as you're just off boost under 2500rpm. If it were me I would say yes change it. Reliability wise the ST will probably be better but for sheer fun nothing can beat the Subaru for it's money and I have had so many compliments about it, from both ladies and men.

I took my STI to Scotland in April and got 32mpg cruising on the motorway and keeping well away from any boost so it is possible to get good mpg.

I VE GOT A 57 PLATE STI TYPE UK WITH PPP oops cap lock onsorry round town i get about 18 19 to the gallon floor it every where and it drops lower on the few runs that i have doen ie long distance constant speed runs i managed about 28/29 off boost would be better to the gallon crusing at around the 70 mark on the motorway..... ride can be hard on bumps the turning circle is pretty bad for parking etc but brilliant at speed for turning into and out of corners etc....5 seats fair boot ,my tax is around 445 per year from memory big service at a dealer if under warranty is approx 400 notes compared to my ppp'd wrx 2 litre the ride is harsher but it is a differnnet car altogether 2 different cars ones a sporty fast saloon the other is a beast fast brilliant handling hard ride thirsty etc but a beast...had mine 18 months but its gotta go now due to redundancy will miss him....good luck

All good info, so what to do what to do.

• Insurance is only going up with £200 so thats ok.
• Tax increase's by £200 so again okish a suppose.
• Its just the MPG, and coming from a 280bhp ST am not expecting much, if i knew yeah on the motorway for the 50 miles or so i could get 30mpg, i would sign now.

Hmmmm what to do.

i average bout 20mpg in mine since ive had it (6 months), although mostly town stuff with some long journeys now and again
get about 26-27mpg on a long run w/o being to careful with the speed etc

great cars, really enjoy mine, but the bouncy standard suspension is doing my head in, so im gettin a set of BC coilovers at some point..

you can get cheaper tax if you get pre apr/mar 2006
mine was reg'd jan 06 so only 250 tax a year i believe

i came from a std CTR (Ep3) and thought awd would be boring heh
i was completely wrong, taking roundabouts is even more fun

Not sure what fuel your ST used to run on, but an STI should only be fueled with super unleaded.

i would just go for it buddy for the little extra it might cost depending on your right foot you wont be dissapointed if you look after it right warm up cool down and dont abuse it, it will be reliable, im on my third scooby in 9 years and never had a problem just treat them right and they will treat you right

I went from ford to Subaru, first wrx then jdm sti, both been very good and reliable, and I have less worries come mot time the ford front suspension arms were always a worry and the Subaru is easy to get cheapish tuning parts for and loads of used stuff about, fords haven't been like that since the eighties, I love 80's fords but not the newer stuff, only issue on Subaru is fuel consumption but as I do about 150 miles a week I don't worry about it saves wasting my money on other things if you can afford it go for it I doubt you will have any regrets but if you want more comfort like your st test drive a wrx as well see what you prefer

I Do want the power and want the 4 wheel drive, so i know theres a price to pay.

ST costs around £70 to fill and only runs on Tesco 99 also. Will do roughly on a very good day 300 miles to a tank. So its seems to be on par with the STi.

So after the outlay of Tax and addtional insurance, all **should** be the same.

Don't be too hasty though mate. I'm not sure if you'd get a JDM (Japanese Domestic Model) for similar sensible money, but they are better cars. That would be worth investigating. It's a buyers market for these cars right now. By all means have a look, but there will always be another one around the corner if this isn't 100%

I had a Code:red 285 ST for 2.5 years. Fuel econony will be about the same on the move if your getting 25-27mpg. I did manage better than that on my ST, but it seems to vary depending on driving style.

I get around 25-27 out of my STi on M-way. Drops to around 20mpg around town, depending on how hard I push. My STi is running around 360bhp.

Its worth noting the one your looking at is not a PPP, Its been forsale for around 6weeks+ as it was forsale before I bought mine. It does look a nice example.

Have you seen JPeformance example, mileage is a bit higher, I was going to view it when it was forsale privately, great spec on it.

The only way you will get 30 mpg is driving off boost on a motorway, but it can be achieved, I have done it and mine runs 333bhp.

Sorry - this was it, but is now sold. Was only on the market for few days, previous owner had it up for 11250 for a few weeks but has arguably a better spec than the revitupuk. I am guessing you are looking to PX so it needs to be a trade?
