Far better built, hence heavier. Bodyshell is 120% stiffer, so a far better base for suspension mods. As standard, not as raw as a Classic. No real difference in performance, feels slower due to being more refined. 300bhp easily achievable cheaply, particularly if you use used parts. VF35 (£350), STI Pinks (£120), Walbro fuel pump (£70) Decatted up pipe (£60 or £120 for Harveys ) Remap (£350 open source). Before upping BHP, brakes and suspension needs sorting, that applies equally to Classics or Newage. If you go for an STI, other than brakes, you will still need to mod it to get it to be enjoyable, particularly the standard, lame UK STI. A modified STI is the cheap option.

Keep looking, minters do come up. Best buys are imports that have only been in the country a little while with one owner. UK classics are ok but you'll struggle to find one that isn't rusting somewhere unless it's been garaged and properly cared for. This imports that come in are remarkably clean and better standard packages.
Three years ago I bought this for 2.5k in standard form and it's just about the best car I have owned and modified

I see ones like that and spec condition wise they are perfect but it's just the yuck colour. (in my opinion).
I've noticed the less desirable colours are the ones that stick around for sale for a bit.
There are x3 ones in that colour that are all similar spec (mileage, condition etc) but are all in than colour green.

Having driven several classics and owning a blob wrx i would say the classic feels more aggressive but in the real world the performance is very similar. However with the blob you get a nicer more modern interior and a more refined car in my opinion.You can take the wrx to 280bhpish with decat, panel filter and remap (under £500 all in). Personally I prefer driving a 6 year old car to driving a 12 year old car.
Plus there is more room in a newage and i'm 6'6".
Having said that, if you can afford a blob wrx you can probably afford a jdm classic sti and that is gonna give you a lot more grunt and i doubt you'll regret buying that.

depends what you want from your car really ? as mentioned new age are more refind , but heavier ! at the end of the day if modified correctly both will be very fast cars ! i think if you want a more raw experiance and better handling go for the classic ! i have heard from alot of people ,including a well respected subaru specialist, that the classic is a far better base for a fast impreza ! sti ra, imo

Nothing like a classic in silver
I also have a factory fitted TD05. (280PS from factory. Abelt on 100 ron)
Just over 52K and still restricted to 112mph.
And how many 14yr old cars still come up this good?
Classics all the way for me.
