Default Am I being scammed urgent replies

I currently have my scooby up for sale and have agreed the sale with a person from germany who has agreed to bring cash and let me pay it into the bank before he takes the car which I'm happy with however he is asking for a scan of the V5 for insurance purposes and also the certificate of conformity which I have as mine was an import.

Would this be normal or is there something dodgy?

Thanks in advance

Nope they are not scamming you. They need to send the copy of the v5 to their insurance company and will need the COCto register the car there.

This is normal for Germany and to get insurance there. Doesn't however mean it isn't a con. Apart from a phone number what else do you know about the potential purchaser?

Email address, eBay user ID and phone number. Like I say he has agreed to bring pound sterling and I insisted I would pay it into the bank before he takes the car cos once it's in there it is fine. Didn't want electronic bank transfers etc etc.

What is the worse that can happen if he has a scan of the v5 and COC?

Thanks for your help already guys, really appreciated...

ask him if it is ok that you mark the V5 with 'copy for insurance purposes only' in big marker pen and to blank out any of your personal details. also the copy wont show any of the watermarks/security elements of the V5

sounds ok if he's paying with the folding stuff, ask bank to check every note thou

Same happened to me, guy who bought my old p1 needed things like this, took the gamble and it paid off, still speak to his mate who came with him. I just agreed that I would not sign the log book over until the cash had been checked anf counted by thr bank and was cleared funds which he fully understood.

Not all are out to scam mate, there are still SOME decent people out there

Thanks for all your help guys. I just needed the reassurance. My gut instinct thinks everything will be fine but it always good to get another opinion...

Can't see a problem when cash is involved, especially if you go to bank with the notes. The money is there and ready to draw out, no clearing time or anything.

Thanks again guys. Everything seems to be going swimmingly now and I'm more than happy.

One last question for anyone that has sold a car to someone within the EU - regarding the v5 I take it I just fill in the export bit and send it to the dvla and the new german keeper keeps the rest?

Cheers

Make sure you send it off otherwise you'll start picking up EU speed tickets if the plates are left on .
