STI intercoolers are silver and will have a steel Y-Piece rather than plastic. Not worth the upgrade in my opinion, unless you go for a MY2001 onwards. But then you have the hassle of fitting it as it doesn't just bolt in.

I think your current cooler will be fine for where you want to go power wise. You could just take yours off and give it a fresh coat of paint and spray a STI logo on the core.

Don't bother with a v5 sti intercooler, they are only a tiny bit bigger on the end tank. Get a newage wrx intercooler, bigger core and easy to fit but not too much fuss like an sti one.

They are also peanuts on ebay. You'll need the cooler with dumpvalve and the newage dumpvalve to inlet hose. When you fit it you'll need the turbo to interccoler Y hose assembley from your car and you'll need to adjust (bend) the rhs bracket and make one small flat plate on the lhs with two holes to mount it to the lhs bracket on your car.

The STI ones also have a bigger core compared to the UK/WRX classic intercooler, its not just cosmetic you know

As above ,the cores are bigger on a sti intercooler and more importantly it is the restrictive plastic y pipe on the std units that impedes airflow, compared to the straighter silicone jobbie on the sti units.

No ****

Trouble with newage Sti ones is they're a pig to fit on a classic in comparison and they're £200. A newage wrx is an upgrade, you'd prob get one for £15-20 on eBay and they're easy to fit.

Better/bigger than a classic Sti one and cheaper.

I was making the point he'd be better getting one than a classic Sti one. Ofcoarse a newage Sti one is better.
