Opinions needed on changing my uk hatch to a jdm hatch
As the title really, I'm currently in the process of getting round to that time were I find myself looking for a new car again. I've had my uk 2.5 hatch for 3 years and yes like the rest popped an engine.
the Question really is has any of you guys been in a similar position in wanting to change from a uk to a jdm & basically what advantages would I gain over my current car which is fairly well tinkered with running 410bhp 430lbs/ft ??
I'm actually looking at Immy's spec c he's got up for sale on piston heads
I expect the usual dribble and moaning about the hatch being pig ugly but thats not the point here.
Cheers

I would have thought with you already running more power than standard the main difference would have been the handling! Surely a test drive in Immy's car will let you feel whats different

isnt a popped engine the perfect oportunity to simply rebuild a stronger forged 1? i know thats the plan for my hawk, although right now it seems solid. Plenty smiles to be had with a strong engine + big turbo
BTW did the engine pop on the standard map? they tend to be problematic

by the sounds of it your current hatch is a better spec then the std jdm hatch so not to sure why you would want to change other then having a new car with next to no miles and a warranty but as you are looking at a jdm i would of thought there would be no warranty on them. not sure why you would want to sack yours off for a lesser spec'd car with no warranty seems a little crazy and pointless to me but each to their own

I Agree with steve1982, you won't notice the difference with the spec c being in standard form however it does have the better engine, twinscroll set up 8000rpm limit ,torsion rear diff, aluminum hood, 30kg lighter , better handling , sticky rubber ,intercooler water tank in the boot and the fact that there's only two on the road including this one. And better residual value when you come to sell.
The best thing to do is drive one before you buy.

That would be my choice for my next car, think the Spec C Hatch is a great spec car for the money. Just couldn't bare the thought of selling my GB270 at such a loss so really may as well keep it and spec it up to what I want and rebuild the engine as and when required. Fed up now off losing money on cars there's better things to spend it on other than cars, well that's what the wife tells me !!!

I'm not up to speed on your chassis changes rob84, but in essence, keep with what you have imo. The investment has already been made and the chassis / steering is the only area, between that of the SPEC C, that maybe different (like I said, I don't know what you have done).
Also... just to put the cat amongst the pigeons. I know of one new twin AVCS JDM engine (i.e. current MY06> 2ltr JDM spec) that has let go.... not in a spectacular way, but the ringlands have gone at approximately 440bhp. In isolation this does not mean a fat lot as it's one engine, but it has happened.

Also (as I fancy an '11 hatch as my next car but the uk engine failures worry me so doing some reading up on JDM) is it still possible to get the flat 4 burble with the JDM 2.0l?
