Default Wrx for sale- no subaru s/history - why ??

Okay todays find was the car in the following advert - a lovely 2005 uk wrx with only 31k on the clock, two owners from new, in the prefered blue colour, a few nice touches - genuine sti bodykit / nur spec exhaust etc and even within easy travelling distance to view it !!

http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/2900623.htm

car was up for 8k last night which given the state off the s/h sports car market was im my opinion anyway way over the top !! emailed the seller and advised that I was certainly very interested in the car but that given the state off the market was 8k the very lowest price he would accept ??

received an email back from him and to be fair to the guy he has been great in answering all my numerous requests for additional info on the car, anyway after explaining about the subaru prices just now he advised that yep he did not realise the market was so bad and that he would adjust the price to which he did down to £6500.

he explained that he had only had the car since january, had paid 8k for it and was just looking to get his money back on it since deciding it was not the car for him and that a supra was on the cards again ( very active supra owners forum member )

anyway price was certainly much better but being the typical tight scotsman I am !! I asked if he would go any lower to which he replied nope 6500 is the very lowest - fair enough !!

so whats the problem then ??!!

service history !!

he had said from the very start that the car had been serviced by revolution motorsports in Newcastle with all receipts to prove, asked what subaru service history there was and was told none at all, first service was in may 2006 when the car was sitting on 6000 miles

did wonder if the car had possibly been fitted with a new engine at some stage hence the ultra low mileage / non subaru service history but again the first service at 6k would more or less rule that one out.

so okay would you risk having no warranty on a brand new car by not getting the car serviced by subaru themselves ??

( appreciatte the law has changed Now regarding warranty / non subaru garages )

car looks a great example but just have a niggle about this lack off subaru s/history- should I is there something obvious I am possibly missing ???

I don't think i would go for a car with no subaru service history for at least the first few services, but some people might, up to you really.

For £6500 you could easily get a nice bugeye sti, which is a lot stronger in terms of engine and gearbox and also comes with nicer seats, better brakes etc. You may even be lucky enough to get a blobeye sti for £6500, but you would have to wait a while till one popped up, a decent one anyway.

lol I'd much rather buy a car without Subaru history!

Wouldn't have those monkey's touch a Subaru of mine again.

If I was looking for another specialist history would mean more to me.

Guys appreciatte that yep in a lot off cases specialist for whatever reason ( better job / cheaper etc ) are prefered over the dealers which is fair enough a few years down the line, but again would you spend say £20k + on a brand new car and be prepared to invalidate any warranty getting it serviced from day one elsewhere which is what this car when put on the road ( 2005 ) was the law ??

would subaru not have given any services free off charge when buying brand new ie. first service etc or would this have just been something that a buyer would just have to try negotiate into any particular deal ??

is 6k indeed the first service off the 2005 uk 2.0 wrx ??

+1

A reputable specialist is far preferable to the main dealers IMO. Been caught a few times with shocking workmanship and heard countless horror stories from others, so wouldn't go near any of them with any of my cars

Warrenty is not affected as long as manufacturers service schedule is followed, and work is carried out by a bona fide specialist anyway

You postive that was the case back then thou mate - 2005 ?? from what I have been advised its only in the last few years that the rules regarding warranties changed to allow what you say ie. " Warrenty is not affected as long as manufacturers service schedule is followed, and work is carried out by a bona fide specialist anyway "

As previously suggested, phone Revolution for the definitive answer. My experience of Subaru main dealers when my 3 Imprezas have been under warranty has been very mixed. My experience of specialists has been consistently good, far cheaper and servicing work to be of a higher standard.
The car you're looking at is a parallel import. The history may have been lost to hide this. The PDI is a giveaway in the service history book, normally completed in Malta, Cyprus or Holland.

Why would you do all those mods and keep the engine standard?

Why the silicon hoses and no mention in the ad?

I personally would walk away from a car with an iffy service history.

Guys anyone able to advise me the factory service schedule on the above car - 55 blobeye ??

the car has just had an mot and mini service at 31k - plugs oil and filter change brake pads etc

as I say the first service was carried out may 2006 at 8000 miles, when should the next service been due ?? also getting a few conflicting views regards when the cambelt should be changed last person I spoke to said it was according to the factory issued owners manual 66000 miles or 7 years.

would this nur spec exhaust / air filter make much off a difference apart from increased noise ??!! the owner advises that the car has not been remapped / would it have to have been done to compensate the two above fitted items ??

this correct ??

Fella sat with my service book for a 55 Blobeye in front of me the service schedule is :-
Months 0 12 24 36 48 60 72
x1000mls 1 10 20 30 40 50 60

Camshaft Drive Belt should be replaced at 50k or 60 months.

Hope this helps fella

Ps - it does say that for "low mileage users the intervals will remain the same, but component changes will be at the discretion of your offically appointed SUBARU dealer, pending their inspection. However engin oil and filter change is mandrtory"
The above quote is on page 22 of the service book
