Do I need a remap?
If I were to fit a high flow sports cat along with a new back box, will I need to remap the ecu.
As I plan to start modding my 2005 STi gradually, I planned on just getting a Japspeed back box first, so if I'm correct, that alone shouldn't need a remap.
Then later, after I've gathered some money, I will get the higher flow fuel pump, panel filter and ecu remap.

If you can afford to, I'd say you're better off buying a full system so it will all fit together nicely with each part designed to complement the other.
Just save up and get a full exhaust and up pipe, and a good cotton filter, then a remap.
You'll liberate a whole load power that way and you're guaranteed not to interfere with the car in between.
jaygsi - it will only decrease your mpg if you drive it like a nutter.
The standard power of my WRX when I bought it was 209bhp.
I have an STI up pipe, Prodrive sports cat and centre decat, going into a 3" system from the centre back, and with a green panel filter and a JGM map this made 281bhp.
I can still get the exact same mileage if not better if I drive sensibly, and tbh even I go hooning about in it I haven't noticed an enormous loss in mpg - let's face it the cars aren't great with that to start with!
I'm about to upgrade to STI injectors and turbo, but even with that I wouldn't expect my fuel consumption to go up dramatically as long as I drive it sensibly.
Depending on how much you spend you can also go for switchable maps etc for economy driving.
Last thing guys - please please please USE THE SEARCH before posting!

Bugeye_Scoob, thanks for your input. I just wanted to question one point though...
When newage STi's are fitted with the PPP, they replace the centre cat with a high flow sports version along with the back box. This then leaves mismatched parts, some being standard STi and others Prodrive. Surely then, they will still compliment eachother fine.
Ideally I would do a whole system upgrade, but I don't want to spend too much, whilst having many other financial commitments.
