Default confused!!

hi all, im currently looking at buying a newer impreza. went to look at a 53 plate wrx uk300 today but after looking around on the internet they dont seem to exist! from what ive found they only made them in 2001 and they were a 215bhp bugeye with a five speed box and 18 inch oz racing wheels. the one i saw today was a blob with a six speed box and loads of sti bits, including the blue sti seats, steering wheel, spoiler, scoop and intercooler. the guy claims 262bhp as he says they all came with prodrive upgrades. the only car i can find which would seem to fit the bill would be the wrx 300 but this didnt come out till 2005! anyone got any ideas as to what it is? mycarcheck.com and the dvla both say the reg belongs to a subaru impreza, wrx uk 300 4 door saloon.

the brakes also have brembo on them and not subaru if this helps.

Yes they did do a bug eye UK300. I had one ! They didn't come with a Prodrive upgrade as standard. It was approx £1500 optional extra

steve that link is a bug with a 5 speed so would rule that one out. if its not an sti then someone has gone to great lengths to make it look like one. i was thinking it could be sti type uk and maybe there was an error with the log book? dvla and all insurance companies think it is a wrx uk 300. just seems a bit odd cant find another one like it until 2005

It says in the ad though it will come with a certificate also.
You can also check at a dealers as they will have it on their system.

I should point out that it has the standard back box on that picture (PPP backbox is different), you need the registration number for the dealer and maybe the chassis number, but a proper PPP'd car will have a certificate showing the reg, chassis number, mileage and date fitted etc.

I thought that as well Tony. Thats not a prodrive BB ?? Very odd. Doesn't say the mileage either. If its what it says it is then it looks quite good for the price

Interesting read about the changes made to the UK300, basically PPP and an STi blue interior. I always thought 300 was the power, guess I was wrong!

Looking at the advert I'm reading that the owner has changed a few more bits including fitting the bigger STi bonnet scoop and high-level spoiler, upgrading the brakes (he can't spell) and the exhaust (which explains the tailpipe) and some other stuff. I don't agree that its an STi but then I didn't know what a UK300 was so don't rely on my opinion

The UK 300 was an MY01 car, had a fancy spoiler, 18 inch gold oz wheels, morette headlights, blue sti type interior and a plaque, otherwise it was exactly the same mechanically as a standard WRX, the MY05 car is a little more discreet in its looks, but that one there is defintately an STI type UK

After spending all evening looking online im beginning to think its an sti. Steve the mileage is 72k. The only thing that doesnt add up is the dvla and insurance data base think it is a wrx uk 300. Done a full check and everything comes up clean but it also thinks its a wrx uk 300 lol

Sorry Shaun, Im probably confusing matter futher

I owned a UK300 which was 2001 plate, and I believe they were all 2001 with the exception of a couple that ran into around May 2002 (cant be sure though)

As the car in question is a Blobeye, Im was throwing the question out that there was a blobeye WRX300 that could maybe where the confusion was coming from, but I dont know where this was released

Rob

There was indeed a Blob WRX300...... which hit the UK market in 2005 IMHO a marketing ploy to sell more WRX's

Nothing to do with the Bug UK300, one of which was parked next to the Indian Takeaway in Sale (Manchester) in 2001, the guy behind the counter had a squinty eye, but the car did look very nice

thanks for the info guys, its definitely a weird one. picked the car up yesterday evening though quick trip to the local garage and their computer shows it as a wrx uk 300 but the supplier for the timing belt kit he ordered shows it as a wrx sti type uk (which it definitely is) must be a dvla error of some sort.
either way the car is immaculate and drives perfect so im more than happy with it
