Default Hawkeye vs hatch sti (pro&cons)

Hi
Been thinking of selling my 05 blob sti for one of the above!! But what do I go for?? Or am I better off just sticking with what I've got and save my money?? Am I right in thinking the hawkeye is basically the same as mine but 2.5?? And is it the same 2.5 in the hatch?? Basically looking for the pro&cons on these!!!!
Any advice welcome
Thanks

Hawkeye is probably the best looking Subaru so far, the hatch is more practical.

IMHO.

Sits waiting for the Hatch Haters to appear come on F1fan don't disappoint me

Never had a hawk personally but I went from a blob sti to a hatch sti when they first came out and well I've still got it now

Personally for me I still think the hatch is a brilliant bit of kit steering can be a little vague due to its design but I like it all the same, the boot isnt the best but at least the seats fold down
You will have seen a thread though about piston ringland fractures on the 2.5 engine, happens to some and not others. thats the major drawback

More of an issue with the ppp kit or the 330s versions. the std cars or custom remapped versions are usually fine

dont let me put you off mate, there are lots out there that have never missed a beat and have done 1000's of miles. all depends on how the car is driven aswel at the end of the day

Personally I have to agree with Dunx, the Hawkeye with the right subtle mods looks the NUTS. The Hatch has taken a while to grow on me, but in the right colours I do like it. The 'Sonic' blue type colour in the hatch doesnt work for me, but White and Black looks sweet. As for performance, I can only suggest you read the 'many' page thread regarding the 2.5 failures and make your own judgement, however I believe the 2.5's in both the Hawk and Hatch make for an outstanding road car offering up good torque, but I believe they dont like much rev's if you like to hear a few screams .

I have only ever been a passanger in both a hatch and hawk, but I have to say they are both sweet cars, but as you have a blob I wouldnt be spending my money just yet (economy situ) unless your wanting more goodies (you have a WRX?). If its just looks your interested in, then a Hawk front conversion could probably been done to yours for as little as £1500 ish, then you have your blob to sell on afterwards?!?!? just a thought

HTH

Would you consider a JDM Sti or Spec C? Their 2.0s are known for toughness, they share the 2.5's low down power due to their twin scroll turbo, and best of all they love (and cope with) being revved to 8000 revs!

You get a rear wiper on the STi too!

Anyway, Hawk, even though the hatch has grown on me.

Hawk looks good but hatch is more practical. If your going to go for either try and go for the stronger Jap spec versions with the 2.0l engines twinscroll turbo and equal length headers.
You can also go for the spec c version in the hawkeye shape. It's 70kg lighter and has a more rigid chassis and oil and transmission coolers.

Both great cars in there own right

Have had a blobeye, hawkeye and hatch STI, got to say the hatch wins hands down, its a bit softer but untouchable on a B road 10mph quicker through nearly every corner. Unfortunatley my hatch engine kept blowing up so got rid but then again have had two rebuilds of my hawkeye engine now so guess you just have to buy a 2.5 engine with your eyes open and like Rob take the oppertunity to tune it up when it does go pop.

Put engines aside and you are left with looks vs handling. I love the look of the Hawk but the hatch and even the new 4 door is a much better handler. The extra wheel base has has given the car loads more stability and grip.

And yes, the JDM's are 2.0

I went from a classic to a Hawkeye RB320 to a 'standard' Hatch STi & now i run a 330s.
I didn't buy any of the scoobies for looks......are you kidding! I bought them for performance, the burble & Subaru community.

The hatch is IMHO far superior to previous models, nothing to do with looks before the haters start. More room in the back, modern inertia & as standard can match quite a few cars equipped with handling packages.

Just put a couple of thousand miles onto my 330s taking it up to 25ish tho miles & not missed a beat or used any oil as such, lucky i guess.

I think you will find the people who have actually own/owned a Hatch recommend them over a Hawk hands down, well apart from the few unlucky ones with regards to engine problems.
Not really talking about people who have test driven one at a dealers for 10 mins or just look at pictures on a forum either
The engine problem [for some] probably has been highlighted to a greater extent because of the radical car redesign to a hatchback........ Now could someone tell me the difference between the hatch tailback and the wagon tailback? They both open the same!

Go for it as i can recommend them enough

My 2p's worth

I went from 2 classics, to an 02 Prodrive style bug, to an 05 blob and now I have a 330S
The hatch is by far the better of all of those in my opinion.
I have always liked the hatch since they first appeared, and I love the 330S

Surprised all the hatch haters haven't jump on here to slag it again

Hawk to me is the far better looking car especially when kitted with subtle enhancements.

Rob

PS, I really do like the Blobeye for the styling too, but hate the appearance

Not much I would have thought. Do both have yaw sensors? Is the suspension tweaked. Someone will know!

Hawks look better, although I'm a wee bit biased cos I have one!
