Default rear shunt :( price?

today this guy went into the back of me wasnt high speed but has pushed the panel back a bit behind the bumper not a lot amount but its definatly moved back....along with damaging my tsl firestorm :'( anyway guy doesnt want to go thru the insurance as his car suffered a scratch, the jammy git! got all his details n blah blah. now looking at it id say it could be pulled bk out with little effort in a body shop n the bumper in fairness would go bk into shape easily... but my exhaust aint gona look right with just a tap here and there its gonna need to be replaced id say...anyway anyone here feel like taking a guess at what sort of figures id b looking at for this kinda work?

hi, was involved in a rear end shunt just before christmas. It was only a low speed though, 15mph max. Had a look at the damage at the scene. Only saw a scratch on rear bumper it was night tho, swapped details with the other guy and got his address and registration plate and a witness details (essential incase they try and deny or false details) following day had a closer look and discovered the rear panel had been creased and rear lights werent fitting right so had a couple of panel repair specialists look at it amd got two quotes. The cheapest being £1600. Although mine is a 03 sti so a 1996 wrx maybe a little cheaperbut if the rear panel is damaged think your still lookin at over a £1000.

hope this helps.

no reason you should put up with the panel being pulled out imo.. i'd want a new one.

a new pannel may cause more damage and potential future rust than repairing the original factory item.

At a guess mate...

Cost of exhaust - £400 (ish)
Panel repair / prep / spray - £400 (ish)

If he doesnt look loaded, go through insurance. Let them know at the least anyway so theres some preparation work being done.

If you don't want to go through insurance then get the other guy to attend a garage with you for advice and an estimate. That way you can both agree on the way forward - him to cover the bill or through the insurance.

I won't do it anymore like that unless it is bare minimal

I had a kid nudge me a few yr back, got all his details...vice versa , his old man came knocking ' can I pay cash for repair at any garage you want '

Kid was paying big insurance so thought why not it's not hurting anyone blah blah

W@nker bounced the cheque and garage came at me for the £600 bill.....turned out lad had given me false details anyway and the car was registered to the previous owner
