Default Bit of help/ info please mechanics

As title folks......wr1 had a new battery 2 weeks ago , all fine til tonight.

Just tested it whilst running.....12.4v on tick over and revs , now the strange bit .........put sidelights on on dipped beam......14.6 v???

Why would putting the lights on up the volts on the battery
Would of assumed it would be the other way round 14 running dropping down when load put on

Any advice would be much appreciated

Mods please leave here and not move.....seem to get more help

The charging system is designed to charge when there is a load on the battery. So leaving lights on will charge the battery better than driving with them off.

Car won't start without being jumped , it's like a flat battery as in really slow to turn over and alarm trying to go off

As musso2010. Alternatator only puts charge back in to battery when it detects a draw from the battery - some electronic gismo. That's why if you run short trips, during the day in the summer with no lights, heater etc, you can flat the battery. Just make sure you regularly during the week put a load on the battery to keep it healthy - sidelights as you have discovered are a good way.

Jump start everyday is not good!!

Short journeys aren't good either!!

If the alternator is charging above the voltage capacity of the battery then you have no problem!!

You either have a fooked battery or a serious drain,

without a multimeter i couldn't tell you
