PROPER Confused !!! Lowering springs didn`t lower the car at ALL !!! Please H E L P !
Hi. I will try to start from the beginning. V2 Sti 96 Saloon. My stock ride height looked too high to me(3 fingers gap beetween tyre and arch) so decided to buy some springs. I bought some used springs of the Ebay, they were advertised as Type R springs. Before instalation I compared them to my stock springs and they were lower, so thought problem sorted. NO. I fitted them on the car and... NO difference !!! Maybe a little bit stiffer but clearance stayed exactly the same. A few months later I found a guy on here (WOODBUTCH) that was selling Brand New Eibach P1 Springs so decided to get these. Again, visual comparsion and Eibachs MUCH lower. Unfortunatelly problem stayed exactly same. Ride height didn`t change at all. HOW COME ??? Is there anything I could done wrong ? I checked 3 different springs sets and all of them are the same height. Is this possible ???
BUT... Looking for the answer I found this thread http://www.iwsti.com/forums/how-inst...l-springs.html
"While putting the struts back together, make sure that the spring rubber ring and the spring hat aling correctly. Also the center hole has to look towards the outside of the car, ie. towards the wheel."
I went to check and it looks that I`ve done it the other way round. That centre hole look towards the inside of the car.
What do you think guys? Does it really matter how you gonna instal that spring hat?
Cheers

Are you sure that the original springs aren`t lowering springs, so then you are replacing like for like??
I have some PI lowering springs on mine and they are around the same gap as you mention, and I`d not like to go lower really.

I don`t think they are. All I wanted to do was lower her a bit more. What about those 3 holes on upper spring hat? These holes should be facing outside and I fitted it facing inside. Maybe that`s the reason why it didn`t get any lower?
I don`t know but to me 2 inches gap is bit too much for STi.

TBH mate i'd get the hole pointing out of the car ie towards the wheel. Not 100% sure but this could affect the tracking?
Does look abit high to be fair? Quite strange really as i have just lowered mine 35mm and i can tell its lower cos i can nearly reach the other side of the roof from one side.
Were as before i couldnt, I'd put it right first then go from there. I know its a ball ache but at least its done right
I got the wrong springs first which i fitted the removed to fit the correct one's, i wasnt impressed as the shop provided me with the wrong springs to start with.
Hope you get it sorted

With the assumption that the springs you replaced are the originals (so 15 years old), then it doesn't surprise me that there is no difference, what drop are the springs you bought supposed to give?
As after 15 years the originals are going to be fatigued to the point where they sit as low as the less extreme aftermarket springs (30-60mm or so), if not lower depending.
Comparing the length compared to the original springs really isn't indicative of how much they'll lower the car.

are they the standard shockers? sounds like you want some adjustable shocks to go with the springs, cos by the sounds of it, all you have done is make the car a firmer ride with putting uprated springs on

I'd guess it was lowered to begin with. Three fingers is quite a small gap compared to my standard suspension, so could perhaps have been lowered slightly already, hence you never see a difference, if the drop rate of both the springs are similar.

Seen this problem before....a friend of mine bought my lowered Eibachs which had been fitted to my RB5 (possibly from new with the PPP pack)....he fitted them to his 98 uk turbo and it didnt even lower it at all, not a mm
He scratched his head for a while and ended up goin for a set of H+R's the same as mine and the problem was sorted.
Still done even understand why the eibachs didnt lower his car at all, because my RB5 sat nice with them in and i knew others with eibachs fitted which were fine, maybe not very low but a little difference in ride height
Ive found that the only lowering springs that seem to work ona classic and give a noticable drop are the H+R 50mm or the Teins

if the orginal springs on the car have been on since new then chances are they would be weak by now , so fitting lower springs my not mean a drop in ride hight
also just cos the new springs were smaller than you standard ones doesnt also mean it will sit lower , they could be smaller but stronger metal , coil etc if you get what i mean
