Default nooooooooo.........................oh ****!

lost the back end of the car yesterday trying to swerve to avoid hitting a fox on the way to work on a country lane yesterday morning on a blind bend. now i am not particularly pro "BAN FOXHUNTING", i just did not want to damage my pride and joy by chopping the vermin in 2 with my splitter and then having to jet wash the remains from my Zunsport lower grill. Ended up properly out of shape, gently kissed the lampost, temporarily mounted the kerb (bushes not pavement) and by the time i came to a stop i am needing at least a new bumper, splitter, grill set, inserts on hawkeye bumper inc. headlight washer mechanisms, wishbone, 2 wheels and tyreson the up-side, the engine bay looks untouched, as do the ridiculously expensive headlights, and no panel damage whatsoever apart from a v. small dent on the front edge of the bonnet. fingers crossed on the stuff i cant see now, as it did empty the gearbox oil when it bottomed out in the middle of the road. very lucky it ended up as it did and that the police where as understanding as they were, overall result could of been a lot worse! MORAL: ALWAYS EXPECT THE UNEXPECTED.

Cost of damage via fox hit = couple hours of time washing car.

Cost of damage via atempting to avoid said fox = ££££££

Sorry to hear it, but thats why I always go for the road kill on anything short of a deer.

My missus ran over an already dead badger in the outside lane of a dual carriageway in her lowered MX5, i had to jet wash off the 'mess' it made. It was pretty much just badger soup splattered everywhere under the car, possibly one of the worst smelling/most disgusting things ive ever done

I can see why you wanted to avoid it, i'd have happily paid for 2 replacement tyres rather than go through cleaning that up again!

That sucks mate!

I hit a duck once in my astra on a dual carriageway whilst overtaking someone. Nothing I could do really other than hit it.

By the time I got home there was no sign of it. I definitely hit it since all I saw was a plume of feathers.

Yeah, unfortunately so far I have a squashed list of 1 squirrel, 3 pidgeons (at the same time), 1 hedgehog and a rabbit all unavoidable or I would have had a major accident!

Sorry to hear of your woes, at least there wasn't another car coming in the opposite direction though and no one was injured

I mangled a bambi on the A76 to Stranraer in my Lexus. Right mess. just clipped it with the corner at about 60 mph. really surprised the airbags didn't go off. Mum asked why i didnt throw it in the boot as it might have fed the dogs for a week or two.

Sorry to hear about the damage......could have been much worse though, a few years back two guys were killed on the A5 when they left the road sideways and hit a tree/post.

Eye witness said they swerved for a rabbit.

http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h1...n/DSC00047.jpg was the result of me trying to avoid a small animal (rabbit, hare fox or such like) on a bend, with new tyres, pissing it down at 4am on a monday morning. Yes, it was a write-off unfortunately

I did a simular thing 5 1/2 years ago following a mate in his range rover from his farm. I Went on a grass verge to avoid a fox that ran between us, we were only at 20-30mph but the level grass verge had a hidden dry culvert 3ftx7ft deep.

My car was on its side, crushing the roof and front hit culvert end. My doors were level with the road Completely writting off my 2002 STi scoob.

Not good!

I've always been told that in that kind of situation the best thing you can do is to try to scrub off as much speed as you can and hit the thing - assuming it doesn't manage to get out the way!
