Clean with wire brush, paint by hand with Hammerite Smooth, two coats about 30 minutes apart.
Available in loads of colours, plus metallics, it paints over all but flaking rust, and stops it dead.
You DO NOT need high temperature paint, or special brake cleaners, but you WILL need some proper Hammerite thinners to clean the brushes, since ordinary thinners won't touch it.
BTW: not nagging, or owt, but the "Search" button would have stopped me having to type this out for the third time this month

I had the same question a few months ago.
Good old alcazar came to the rescue and gave me the same advice as above. Followed it and it worked a treat and now very, very happy with the results, top bloke
Here's my thread to see the result, thanks again alcazar

I bought a large tub of hammerite smooth red for the calipers. I think is was about £12. Each caliper had 3 coats of paint and i barely made a dent in it. I have loads left.
I originally thought i'd have to touch them up every couple of months but i was wrong, did them in Jan/Feb and all i do is wipe them over and they come up good as new.

Put a pic of the car up.
Go for 500, that way you can do her car and your mates cars as well
On the painting callipers thread i put up there was someone that has done his in sky blue to match his car and they look excellent. But beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
