R6 or VFR 400 NC30

Default R6 or VFR 400 NC30

will be taking my bike test next month, looking for a fast bike i'm a confident rider.

should i

A: Get the R6 2005 plate pay the £800 insurance! and keep the bike long term
or
B: Get the VFR 400 1989 cheap insurance, but 1/2 HP. and sell after a year getting me, ! years no claims fingers crossed??

After passing my test I test drove a VFR 400, as I love the bikes but didn't find the ride went with my driving style. I'm a confident rider and bought a ZX6R and loved every minute of owning it! I'm looking to get a SP1 soon I think!

Take both out and see which one feels more comfortable and goes with your driving style.

im going to text the zx6r, r6 and the cbr 600 to get a feel what im basicly asking is it worth the exra money for the extra power.

both very different handling bikes fella.. the 05 R6 is a bloody quick bike and i know you say you're confident but that bike needs/wants to be revved hard to get anywhere.. same as the VFR tbh.. it takes years of riding on a full licence to be confident on a sports bike believe me.. the worst thing you could possibly do is hop on a big cc bike and wheelie off into the sunset! i've only just sold my 09 bigbang R1 having owned 3 R1's, 3 GSXR1000's, 2 blades etc etc.. still got my heart rate up after many years!

Hi I have a cbr 400 rr nc29 plenty fast enough and great handling used to ride with a mate who had a r6 and had no trouble keeping up

im not saying im experienced in anyway!
just want to know weather a should get the bigger bike and as my experience grows i can use more of what the bike has to offer. I have alot of respect for the machine.

i started off on a cbr600 which was great, then moved to a gsxr600 which i can say i loved, my friend had a r6 which was nice but i never rated it much compared to the gixxer, i was recently looking at buying a bike again, and out of the gixxer,r6 the gixxer was taking my vote again, r6 and cbr600rr just felt to short and uncomfortable, im 6ft 1" if thats any help.
i would go for a 600 definately, only as fast as u ride it

exactly i can grow into it, im a 5ft 9 short **** so smaller bike is ace for me

Are you over 21 and after passing your test intending to jump straight on a 600 sports bike? I really would not recommend you doing this.
Son is 18 and has just got a 35hp restricted Yamaha FZ6-S2. Quicker than most cars and will still do 90+ mph.
Take your time - dont have any accidemts, learn how to ride and get a sports bike when you have 2 years or more no-claims is my recommendation.

if your going for a 600cc sports, i would def take all 3 out on a test ride, i felt a bif dif between them all

im on about doing mine and im going for a gsxr 600 , iv ridden a r6 and a gsxr and prefer the gsxr

looks like take them all out, i will go for a 600 and suffer the insurance. i can grow into the bike, im not a racer and will give it time to gain experience.

Ah, the good ole days. Learner 250's and 55mph 50's for 16 year olds, then two years on a 125 when the Gestapo decided the RD250LC was just too dangerous for anyone on L's. Almost funny now considering what the inexperienced can get away with.

The restricted mopeds for 16 year olds are undoubtedly a safety hazard compared to the old 55mph jobs as they just can't keep up with the flow of traffic anywhere apart from on the pavement, so end up riding in the gutter over all the garbage.
In view of the performance of modern bikes there may be an argument for the 125 rule for everyone or otherwise a BHP limit for everyone on L-plates and the need to show a certain level of experience at this level pre-test.
The Direct Access program just mystifies me. Let somebody with possibly zero experience on a bike ponce about for a few hours pretending to be responsible, and then providing they carry it off and are of the relevant age, give them the green light to hop on a 1000cc 190mph bike that would annihilate virtually any car you can think of if they have a few grand spare or sign the relevant loan documents.
Madness, but then again in this age of 'must have everything now and look good doing it' I suppose the bike market would be on it's **** under the old rules.
No surprise though that so many Direct Access riders are either doddering around on their gleaming superbikes or being pulled out of ditches on stretchers.
You may of course be a very responsible individual who is merely taking advantage of the current system, and if so good luck to you.
Although as you can probably guess, I would rather you went with the NC30.

RVF400 NC35 all the way m8, i have had NSR125, 2 x CBR600 FS2 plus other bikes and the best all rounder was the RVF400. great all round bike..... if i could get another mint NC35 i would have one now. i really do kick my self for selling it as they are fetching some good money these days. But if you want power and cheap insurance then this is the way forward.

But if your looking for something quicker the CBR600 FS2 top bike :-)

R6 is quite a tricky first bike imo. Not impossible to live with but the gearing means slow manouvering isn't the best.

The c1h model zx6r is a really nice 1st bike, easy to ride slow and very sure footed. Also very grunty for a 600.

I actually found riding litre bikes better than the 600's, I bought a brand new r6 about 10 years ago and it was my first proper bike. The R1 I replaced it with was much easier to ride.

I have a lovely GSX 400 RRP if your interested, its been well loved for many years but for the last 6 years its been in my garage, gets started once a year, polished then put back inside .
I do have to get the fork seals done tho.

After passing your test invest in some Advanced training. It will pay you back in the long run
