emisson problem
ian.e has it nailed
Your ECU has detected a problem with the engine and lit up the CEL (Check Engine Light), it stores a code on the ECU memory called an OBD II code ( on board dignostic code) which can be read by plugging in a code reader into you OBD Port which is just under the steering wheel..........looks like a big version of a USB port
Subaru garages have a machine called a "select monitor" which can read the codes and try and work out what is wrong.... other code readers from other manufacturers can also read the code and work out what is wrong ..........
You need to see someone who can read the fault code..subaru dealer, subaru specialist or local scooby member with the kit

idd its a fault code logged in system if your lucky it will be an intermitant code and they can just clear it for you, if its permant then something needs changing/fixing. local garage should have ability to check it for you no need to go to a scooby specific garage
