Default ur opinions please

hi all , finally the time is nearly here wen i book my 02 wrx in at tfs racing
i blew a piston ring a year ago and hav been savin and savin and savin and saving anyway i hav a budget of about 3 grand and its exspected to make about 350bhp with my mods . its my daily driver so i dont want anymore power than that really "4 now anyway "
i dont really want to go down the ej25 route as im running standard wrx gearbox . but i hav been lookin at sti engines as they are stronger and would handle the 350bhp easily . the thing is i would prefer to hav my engine re-built so i know its all new and up to me to look after it ! but for 3 grand wot could i do really ? cheers

get a new bottom end direct from subaru ( sti one obv ) or have someone build the bottom end which could be more expensive than 3000 , im sure bottom ends from subaru are between 2 and 2.5k for short blocks ?

Ouch! What caused your car to originally blow a piston? Was it mapped in some way before the piston went?

long story short , started smoking bad from exhaust every now and then , took it to get boost guage fitted at local garage and they said the turbo needed replacing ! so i took their word for it as it was showing the signs . i took it to tfs racing and ended up getting a brand new vf34 turbo along with 550cc injectors ,walbro pump and an ecu tech remap by jolly green monster . it made 301bhp!! 340+ was expected !! started smoking alot worse and alot more often , topped out at 120mph and the boost was goin do-lally !! so took it bak to tfs , had chuffin from the oil filler !! wen my old turbo was removed he said it wasnt that bad ! the dodgy polish mechanics didnt fit the boost guage correctly so the boost reading was wrong making believe the turbo had died ? think it was in limp mode before i added more power pushing it over the edge ????

Personlly I'd get David from API to pick it up, rebuild your bugeye block with STi or equivalent internals and get it mapped by Pat Herbourne on one of his visits there.

Get a 2.0 sti short motor I bought a low mileage one for mine from a 2005 sti and it should be good for 450bhp with the correct parts and it was cheap

£3k should be plenty to get the job done Get A quote from FB as well though, he isn't far away and he does a cracking job and I bet he's competitive on price Just don't jump the queue if you use him, I want mine done

FB tuning based near High Wycombe just off the M40 He's also a mapper so it's a one stop shop and you won't be disappointed.

You can pick up 2003/4/5 STI short blocks for not alot money. Hunt out a low mileage one and you'll be safe at 400 all day long so 350 will be more than fine. Just have a look at what Banny puts his through daily.

I need to clean my engine bay again, its got a bit dirty since that pic on Surrey, Stew did a great job with the engine swap and changed loads of bits to clean the engine bay up

Exactly and that's just what I've got I'm looking for 450 from mine and the build cost including turbo should come in at under £3k.

So far I've bought a 34k old 2005 sti short motor (£900), used ARP head bolts (£100), ported and polished sti 3 heads (£275), Nismo 740cc injectors (£200) & complete gasket set with Cosworth 1.1 head gaskets (£400)

I've obviously got other bits to go with it but it isn't that bad
