Default remapping in norfolk

hi guys, i have recently purchased a front mount intercooler for my 1997 uk turbo, but i do not want to install it untill my car has been mapped, is the rumour true about not being able to map a 1997 ecu? if so would a different year ecu work? (instead of a aftermarket one) and also were would be a good place to get it mapped around norwich, kings lynn area and roughly would it cost?

you will have to go down the simtec or esl route m8, cost various, £1000+ for simtec, £550 or so for esl, you have duncan graham (dynamix), or jgm (simon roe), or get hold of a apexi and you have clive's or apt in norwich.

99 standard ecu is mappable with ecutek.

If you do keep the 97 it is worth waiting and adding a few extra mods before shelling out on an after market ecu to make better use of your cash / power.

You would still need the ecu but for the cost compared to gain etc

Standard turbo will do 280 max, standard injectors 300 so to fit a turbo and injectors and then get it mapped would be more gain thsn a fmic on standard turbo.
Keep tmic and get a secondhand vf28, vf30, vf34, vf35 etc and some 440cc injectors and hello early 300s when mapped.

Was it your car that's done 117k? I'd be tempted to sell up and buy a MY99-00 car with a few less miles. Subaru engines are great if looked after and serviced regurlarly BUT at 117k and modding from standard to over 300bhp I personally think it may end up a ticking time bomb - remembering the gearbox is 117k old too. I know what a dead gearbox is like and the cost to replace it

Good luck anywho.
