P1 box ???
#3
Cheers banny, pretty much what I thought. Bought one yesterday to replace my 'weak' sti3 box which is now on it's way out.
Almost went down the 6 speed road but couldnt justify £1500, hope I don't live to regret it. The P1 box was cheap so won't be the end of the world if it doesn't meet my needs. Hoping to push 400 through it but I'll have to see what Paul says.
On another note Banny, what is your spec just out of interest ?

Quite a few guys over on the P1WOC running over 400 with a standard box on but as mentioned by Banny theres factors to how long it will last with 1 being your driving style.........Also
Will you use it for track days or drag strip????
how old is the box your buying????
Its not a matter of if but when will it let go when stepping over 400

I have a pretty considerate driving style with regards to the box, won't be doing any track work or drag strips just fast road driving.
Not exactly sure how many miles the box has done, all I know is the last owner bought it as a very low milage box and then covered a further 9K with it at 341 bhp.

I think the box will last a while if thats the case bud.......and if unfortunatley it goes then as you say you got it cheap enough anyways........again some guys on the P1woc running over 400 and still have the box on and have done for some time

its not really the bhp that kills the boxes its the torque, know a lad my self who was runing 425bhp, but 362ftlb torque
as long as you dont do to many full on launches the box can last.

The P1 is fitted with a TY754VBAAA. This is the same 5 speed gearbox as fitted to STi 5 and 6. I have run my STi 6 Wagon with this gearbox well over 500 bhp and I also won Scooby Shootout some years ago with this same gearbox. It also did numerous drag starts at other drag events and the only thing I ever broke was the viscuous diff due to Pete Croney fitting a different diff ratio in my back axle when I first started out with this car many years ago. Clown.
Since then I have replaced the viscuous diff once more. The car now has a very recent Subaru 6 speed with wide ratio gears and the original gearbox which has had no work now resides in my 95 WRX Wagon which will be around 450 bhp and 390 ft. lbs at a guess.
Providing you have an organic clutch, change gears sensibly and don't drive like a boy racer the gearbox will last for a long time as I have demonstrated even with numerous drag starts.
