Default New Car - New member.. a few moments of your time?

Hello,

I just joined after buying my first Subaru at the weekend. I'm only 19 and well.. let's just say I'd need a miracle to be insured on a turbo.. so here I am with my blue '06 Impreza R-Sport Saloon (Some of you might call it baby's first Subaru I guess.. but I love it)

Just thought I'd say Hi, was a bit worried about posting at first, I'm not the most clued up when it comes to Subaru's.. but it seemed like a good community, so here I am.

As mentioned above, I don't have a wealth of knowledge like I'm sure some of you do, I've loved Subaru's ever since I was a kid.. and well I just had to get one. I haven't received it from the dealer (Getting rid of a few minor dents for me) and I've tried googling for some information. I've read in a couple of places that they come with Xenon headlights, is this true? Because I've read conflicting posts on here about it.

Are R-Sports laughed out of the forum or am I fairly safe?

I can't wait to get to grips with the knowledge, community.. and actually get to drive the darn thing!

I'm going to attach some images, I'm looking to change the wheels so any known reputable suppliers would be fantastic.

Any replies and opinions would be greatly appreciated. Cheers.

tbh looks wise its not much diff from a wrx, main diff is obvioulsy the bonnet scoop, but a scoob is a scoob and thats all that matters, welcome aboard

Thanks mate! I'm glad you think so. I was just worried about elitists and wondered if that might be why I hadn't found any R-Sport threads!

No major plans as yet, I want to swap the wheels for the double spoke ones (Might not be the technical term) and perhaps add a bonnet scoop, I think they look a lot better with them.. but then on the other hand I feel I want to keep it original.

My original plan was to do all that plus rally graphics.. but after seeing it.. I'm not so sure. I'm just gonna go for the wheels first and go from there .

@Pramas

Thank you buddy, that's why I feel like I want to add a bonnet scoop! Love the look of them.. I'll have to see how much it would cost, there's no way I'm cutting a hole in that thing by myself.

Nope, I'm ecstatic, I really can't wait. Really difficult to get me insured on it, even minus the turbo! Might even have to wait until July (Birthday).. torture!

lol aye i wouldnt be taking a tin opener to my bonnet either if i had to fit 1.
My 1st scoob was a hawk wrx and it totally looked liked urs other than the scoop and gold wheels ( imo cant beat gold wheels and wrc blue ) .
Owned it for 1 year and have now moved onto a nice blawk hawkeye sti.
Prepare for the slippery slope of mods because it will happen and theres no stopping it once it does

Ps iam sure u already know but for insurance u will be very hard to pushed to find cheaper than keith micheals, not sure how they are for 19yr olds but failing that try A-Plan and sky insurance, they are the big 3 insurance companys for subaru

Definitely not, I'll find someone though if it comes down to it.

Ah that sounds brilliant! That's exactly what I want for mine too, different 'Double spoke' wheels in gold, looks the business in my opinion.

Black is definitely my second favourite colour, really does suit the hawkeye's.

Haha, well yeah, I guess the wheel's are a gateway drug.. I mean.. I'd love the rally graphics but I'd use it for business use.. doesn't exactly look professional does it? . I'll just have to talk to my boss about it. Still, already been looking at the mods on this forum and on parts websites and I ain't even got the thing yet. Super excited .

If it came to fitting a scoop, I`d get a bonnet with a scoop and fit that instead.
As then it will look right, and also not be bodged.

You can do loads to the handling and styling, as well as the sound of it.
But it depends on what you want to achieve.

RALLY GRAPHICS .............................NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Car looks nice, change the wheels and fit a turbo bonnet. And if you really want to stand out, stick a larger rear spoiler on.

As it has headlight washers I would think it certainly has HID`s. Nice car for 19...be a pal and forget the graphics!

Nowt wrong with non turbos, I use a sport as my daily driver! It certainly looks the part after I fettled with it a bit, and it retains reasonable mpg!!

I'd avoid the rally graphics tbh, a nice set of rotas and a wrx bonnet will set it off nicely.. Possibly a set of lowering springs too..

Welcome

Ok, afaik the R doesnt have xenon lights, just the wrx and STI, rally graphics will add to your insurance (as will any other changes you make) and trust me at your age you dont want to do that as its not a little hike either.
Forget making the car look like something it isnt, your insurance goes up when you say "ive added a wrx bonnet with scoop" and they say "£1000 please" because you have made it more desirable to the theives out there

Like everyone else, AVOID GRAPHICS!!!!

As for wheels, try PM'ing M444gy aka mags. Top bloke and will beat nearly everyone out there for prices. There are a couple of hawks on here like your with white wheels which i personally really like.

Let us know roughly where you are in the country and we should be able to point you in the right direction for suppliers and servicing.

You'll never be laughed at for owning a sport, it looks great. Only if you turn round and say something like you raced a 500bhp sti and won etc...

As for the mods, save every penny you would have spent for your next car in a couple of years, and then buy a STi

Enjoy.

Looks bloody neat, all I had at 19 was a 10 year old 405 Mi16.

Correction to the above though...

"You'll never be laughed at for owning a sport, it looks great. Only if, in a years time having got your car to look how you want, you post saying "Can I put a turbo lump in my Sport""

It's not as hard as it sounds, I had an Impreza Sport at the age of 17 WRX by early 19, and STi before I was 20. Working hard does pay off

Welcome Arkynsei - nice motor but dont spoil it with graphics! Careful with your mods as already mentioned - insurance is a killer for mods!

I think wheels are OK as all you are doing is changing an alloy for an alloy - price will obnviopusly come into it, but as long as you declare what you done to it. Making it into something like an STi will attract an STi premium and at 19 - ouch!!

I had a reliant mark 3 van at 19

Had three jobs at the time and didn't eat to pay for it.

Very nice car to be honest You can't go far wrong with that and with a few tweaks from a WRX it'll look even better Just don't forget that you'll need 5x100 wheels and not the 5x114's

Yeah I'm kind of leaning the same way as you guys. It's just I've grown up loving the Subaru Rally side of things and.. well.. thought it might be cool. After actually seeing it though, I'm thinking it looks a lot cleaner and nicer without them.

I hear what you're saying about the scoop, got my heart set on that. Anyone know where I could get a bonnet with one attached so I can swap it out? I'm in the Buckinghamshire area, same with the wheels, I'll PM M444gy when I get a chance to think about what I want to do and that.

A spoiler would be good, a slightly higher one might be nice but yeah, it's about the insurance too. It's already at 2k! Only 500 more than my current Seat Ibiza though, so I can justify it (Or so I keep telling myself)

Haha, no, not a drug dealer, I work for an IT Support company.. I just don't have any bills to pay just yet.

Dissapointed about the Xenon's.. I do have two conflicting views though! One saying it does and one saying it doesn't! Guess I'll have to see when I get it. I really like em, much easier to see with.

Thanks a lot for the feedback guys, I am very lucky to get one at 19 but.. boy did I work for it .

Welcome!
Nice car, good to see a nice un-molested scoob.
Great pics as well,good location.

I would only add that most cars can benefit from a nice ,tasteful set of wheels.
