Default need 4 tyres for classic ,but what !!!

right i got 17s on my scooby classic with 205 45 17 toyos but there shagged.

had them balanced in 2 places in peterborough and they both say the same flat spots ,

the first place said 1 wheels was 80grams out,2 wheels was 30 grams and so on.

there alright for track days but thats it as normal road driving is killing my arms as steering wheel wobbles like mad and some times i,m fighting the steering wheel ,they where ok up to 60 mph but now evan at that its bad .

had tracking done at apex in peterborough useing 4 wheel drive laser toe and track and was spot on ,had the car for 7 mths now and the toyos where already fitted i thought a rebalance and track would sort it out but no.

so i need 4 205 45 17s for the scooby and only got £280 in the budget kitty as the scooby service was more inportant to me at the time.

tried loads of places on internet and topgear is the cheapest with 4 nankangs derlivered for £200 will just need them fitting.had these on a 20v turbo golf were ok for that car

next are kumho`s at £230 but got £22 postage from ebay never had them

both sets are brand new

toyos are at £388 derlivered for 4
firestones roll in at £300 for 4 had these in the past wasnt inpressed

want them fitted for japfest as i wont drive the scooby dew to the effests off shacked toyos as its the only thing spoiling the car at the moment

any help or got any mates who work at tyre places and can do deals in my budget but for half decent makes

Hi, if your not planning on doing too many track days then the nankang is your cheapest option.Failing that you get what you pay for .I have recently changed from 225/45/17 eagle f1's down to 205 /45/17 due to fitting prodrive suspension and to keep the speedo reading true and i picked up 4 x continental sport 2 zr rated tyres all with 7.5mm of tread for £200 fitted and balanced . I am not a fan of used tyres ,but after phoning national tyres and getting quoted £145 for 1 continental sport 2 ,it was a no brainer. Not the best tyres in the world when its dry,but bloody awesome in the wet imho.

I agree I got 4 new nangkangs fitted for £200 last year. I only do normal driving in them and they are fine, but got prodrive tracking settings done as well. Good luck mate.

Falkens are the best by a long way .... recognised again and again as the very best all rounder.

I agree with Pete on the Falken thing as well, having used FK 452 and seen good results on the ZE 912 on an ST220 V6 3l.

i think i,m gonna stay with the toyos ,at £380 posted from topgear on ebay.

gonna keep the scoopy parked up till japfest so saving on fuel and stuff will have the money for the toyos there bloody brilliant in the wet and awesome in the dry

only time i bought a second hand tyre was when i was selling an old car and the rear blew out was on a 54 plate bmw and had 18s still cost me £50.

thanks for the help

I've been using Toyo T1R's on a number of cars over the years and have probably done 250,000 miles or so on them. Now they have been replaced by the PX4's and to be honest, having done around 10k in my Lasses car on them, i won't be having any more. The dry grip is fine but the wet grip isn't as good as the T1R's and when the weather is under 5c they are crap. Really dissapointed with them
I've just stuck some Barum Bavarius on my car and they are way better than the PX4's to say they are a budget tyre.

hi yea thats what i got some toyo t1r`s they are brilliant, and i can still get some but not for much longer.

i won,t bother with the px4`s then if you say there crap,
would be better of getting the nankangs and keeping the spare money for more fuel

Hiya Mate, as someone else stated 205 40 17's are the wrong size, best bet is to get 215 45 17's as thats what most people have on their classics also try PM'ing Maggy(M444GY) as I'm sure he could give you a good deal

I had a good search around before I changed my Tyres as the 225/45/17 would rub when cornering at speed. The correct size for a classic impreza fitted with 17 inch rims is 205/45/17 as fitted on the RB5,P1, & Sti 5/6 as std Subaru fitment . Back in 1999/2000 this was a very strange tyre size as pirelli & a few other tyre manufacturers made this size,so a lot of classic owners opted for 215/40/17 as they were far more readily available + cheaper & kept the speedo reading correctly.

I was not to sure about the JDM , ,but remembered a lad off another site who had 16's on his V5 after you had posted up,and i thought they had 17's as std because i was going to buy this car a few years ago when it was on ebay :

I missed out by a few hundread quid, but apparently it has had a few engine builds since then.
