Default Has any1 actually driven the new Type20?

That we read about on the cover of this months evo? Lord knows other than saying its amazing I couldn't get any sort of understand what the car is like to drive from the article itself. I suppose that is what car magazine have come down to these days.

Has anyone driven one? How does it compare to the previous generation type20/5 hawkeye? How about to the racer Spec Mitsu Evo X rs evo wrote so glowingly about? thanks, j

Yes I have driven one.

It is a different car to the previous Hawkeye Type20 and Type25 for a number of different reasons. Whilst it is different it is a great car and what the new Hatch should of been straight from STI. In some ways the Hatch Spec C (and I assume the R205) is a much better car than the OE Hatch STI and is more Type20 hatch than OE hatch (if that makes any sense). Both the Type20 Hatch and Spec C (and I assume the R205) hatch are far superior than the UK STI hatch and JDM STI hatch (imo the JDM STI hatch is superior to the UK hatch, purely because of the engine).

Shawn,
thanks. But how does this car compare to the previous generation Hawkeye type/25/20? Are most drivers better off with the older car for most driving?

Is all the extra grip useful on the road? I mean the old version of the Spec C bested a m3csl in a old Evo comparsion from 06'?

Does this new car have any real communication with the driver and steering feel? thanks, j

IMO there is more grip with the Hatch, but the Hawkeye is "sharper" & more "pointy".... especially the Spec C Hawkeye. They are quite different, but both very good. It all depends on what you want.

The "driving feel" is superior with the latest Spec C, out of all the Hatches. However modifications have been made to the steering of the standard JDM STI Hatch derived Type20, to bridge the gap, over the OE Hatch. I suspect Litchfields will be doing more work in this area on future Type20's.

I've got all the above in stock bar the X rs however have driven one and have a hatch spec c however it does not have the type 20 pack on it.

The new hatch is great however is more refined than the hawkeye I personally think the hawkeye spec c is a much better platform. However the new hatch is bloody practical and the Evo x rs comes last for me.
