Default Buying advice

I have seen a car i like so have just done a cheepie hpi check on it i thought i better had and its come back with a few things .

Most of it was ok no wright offs etc but not liking a couple of things and dont know what to do.

it sais its recorded as having outstanding finance. what do i do with that?and what does that mean to me if i buy the car? should they even be able to sell the car with finance on it???

and in the reg plate section of the check it sais Its had a couple of number plate changes in its time and it sais that there is finance on the numberplate it was. Does that mean there isnt finance on it now but someone has baught a new car (unrelated to the scoob) and put there personal plate on it and it has finance on it..

also it came back as having a milage discrepancy on it which is bit of a worry as i like the car mainly as really low mileage.

hmmmmm what to do?

what would you do?

Help

A car with finance can be sold, it's a right ball ache though. The seller needs to speak to the finance company and inform them of what's going on, you then pay the finance company an agreed amount and the rest is paid by the seller If your payment doesn't cover the finance. There's more to it than that but you get the idea.
Plate changes aren't worth worrying about to be honest but the mileage issue would worry me.
Best bit of advice for you, if your not 100% sure about the car, WALK AWAY.... there are plenty of good Subarus out there, you just gotta find them.

What shape and spec are you after and what is your budget ??

It's unlikely the check you did is wrong but for added piece of mind do a proper HPI check, think they cost £40.

what im after seems to not exist and the ones i do see go to quick.

Im after a 01/02 blue sti prodrive with little or no mods with low mileage . around £4500-£5000.

they all seem to be played with and have high mileage rocking horse poop springs to mind.

Im not fully hung up on the mileage if its fairly high but the car has been looked after and has had relevant services when needed etc but if i could get a low mileage all the better.

I saw a car last night 10pm but by the time i went to phone the bloke up this am at 10 am it had gone it a shame as only in chester too .

The check thingi is part of ebay so should be up to a sort of standard shouldn't it?

im never going to get a scoob at this rate.

Your going to be hard pressed with that budget to get low miles, but look at these anyway

Steer well clear!

Outstanding finance will be on the reg and also the VIN. It just sounds so iffy given there are plenty of straight cars out there.

like the Prodrive style but wouldn't say no to ppp :-)

I have been looking at the UK 300 as an alternative if i cant get an STI in my price bracket. i love the blue interior and spoiler (i know its a typical girly way of looking at it lol but im allowed )

I know the uk 300 is no where near an STI for performance (from what i have read i may be wrong ?) an STI is what i was really after as i dont half fling cars round corners on the back roads so they need to handle well that is my number one requirement over styling but the blue interior and high level spoiler makes me smile love them they really suit the scoob better than the squat one well that's what I think :-) .

I think it would be a case of cue bulls**t from the seller. Unless they don't know about it........ I have heard of people buying cars with finance outstanding but it tends to be easier on expensive cars with up-front people on enthusiasts forums.

every one who,s commented has said the same so keep looking and good luck

You have to be patient looking for a specialist car like a Subaru. There is what appears to be a very nice JDM bugeye for sale, 59000 miles, completely standard car, 2nd uk owner, has full history with invoices AND Japanes history also, says the car is immaculate throughout, £6750. He may take £6000, well worth looking at in my opinion (Pistonheads)

If you want to "fling a car" around a corner then buy something like an MR2 LOL

The Impreza does not handle that well out of the box, OK it has a lot of grip but that's about it. I'll probaly get flamed here but my old 1989 MR2 in the dry was much more fun..

For the average driver like me...

MR2 getting near a corner ......
Try and work out how much speed to carry through the corner and take it from there

Impreza getting near a corner.....
OK, from the last corner I've got the correct gear, the turbo has kicked in and the corner is getting very near and very soon...Brake !!! ****, Brake harder !!
Point the car at the middle of the road and hold breath and thank Godspeed / Performance Friction / Brembo / Carbotech / tar-ox etc that the brakes worked

Shaun

Hi shaun i went from an 1990 g reg mr2 mk 2 which i was pushing it passed its limit so i got my current car pulsar gtir which is 330 bhp and now pushing it also past its limit. both cars were/are good flick cars dry and wet although totaly differnt flick on them both . Looking to have a scoob now always had a love affair with the scoob since it came out . Nows the time to get a scoob of my own ( now im over the hill lol) and cant wait but i dont want to get one that is not up to what im asking from it or all my dreams will be shatterd as always thought of the scoob being my ultimat car ( appart from a Noble i fancy ;-) ) so if it has to take time to find the right one for me im ok to wait for the right one :-)

Although after 3 months looking im starting to get more restless and the later lighter evenings and open roads are calling me.(i live just off a well known drivers road and can here them blarting passed in the evenings and i know they all have a smile on there faces)

Come on scooby find me :-)

Ps not so easy to type on a mobi phone after a bottle of wine lol so appologies for spelling etc.

You can buy 5 complete HPi checks from auto-check for £25. (must be used within 2 months)

Outstanding finance, a full detailed description will be given such as reference for the finance, company and a contact number. You would have to ring them to gain more information.

mileage records - sometimes this can be human error or major.
for example, a car is for sale by a trader (he buys it at 77500) and readvertises it, potential buyer hpi checks it and enteres 78k as the mileage, car is still unsold and new potential buyer enters 77500.. this will show up as discrepcy.
but it also uses details from DVLA etc so will give you more information,

best is to a MOT history check (free on the vosa website) this will give you records for the past 5-6 years..

this specific car does not sound good, but as for hpi and finance one of my other scoobs showed up as having finance on it 5 years after it being payed off, and as such was hard to sell i had to do alot of homework and letter writing to get it all cleared up!!

some of the time these companies will show up whatever info they pull from databases wether it's right or not!! they dont personally check into every car and if anyone thought that, err a little nieve.

not saying this is wrong only putting a point across!!

Fair points Grant

My only concern for the OP is even if the finance issues are just anomalies then it might be best to walk away unless they fancy a headache like you describe

Did you go on the SIDC run tonight???

Lol, sounds like mine! It's sitting on the space saver spare....... Awaiting two new front tyres. I didn't even want to go to the pub with the silly yellow wheel on so I gave it a miss.

Dunno where you are but look at the traders breaking cars, Andy/Scott at scoobyspares have a few new age STI's breaking so you would be able to get one from there (up in fleetwood lancs)
